you brought up the massive attack/portishead sound and twigs definitely experiments with trip hop!! her album EP2 sounds a lot like mezzanine from massive attack. also, trip hop was created by massive attack in bristol (portishead is also from here) which is only 40 minutes from where twigs is from.

She talks about this on her song Video Girl from her LP1 album. It's been really cool to see her blow way past those initial doubts from others to where she is now

The way she sings and moves almost has an alien quality to it. If you ever decide to peruse so more jazzy stuff, I'd love it if you listened to Hiatus Kaiyote. I think you'd both really enjoy it. Got some great tracks on there and very experimental for him, as he mostly made trap music since the 90's. It's got a jazz remix to Slob on my Knob on it too 😂
