Fun fact the “hold up” chorus and beat was originally written by Ezra Koenig from vampire weekend and Beyoncé picked it up

2024-02-13 19:48:24 +0000 UTCThe love for Love Drought is a special note for me. A lot of fans joke about not understanding how the story ends with her still with her husband and I think a lot of that is fans telling on themselves. We devalue these messages of enduring love, of trying to fix things, of being open with someone about how much you love them. I love that your dad made note and could relate. I absolutely love a cohesive album, but the only thing I love more is a concept album. One of my favourite's is The Roots Undun but Kendrick also knows how to do it well. An example of a cohesive one which may not seem is Stormzy's first two albums. He manages to make it an incredibly specific South london album about all his influences from Grime, Gospel and Soul, British specific references from pop culture and pop music. The songs may change genre, but they all fit into a cohesive picture of him.

2024-01-27 16:12:18 +0000 UTCSelf Titled is definitely a fan favourite. I think especially due to the surprise album and visual album drop (which was unheard of at the time) and her first real foray with production and vocal experimentation. It's also a much more personal look into her life, but in a way that feels very distinct from Lemonade. I'll definitely be looking forward to your next reaction since I've really enjoyed both this and your look at Renaissance!

2024-01-22 04:37:05 +0000 UTCYou gotta do self titled, you'd love it, its nearly as diverse in terms of genre as lemonade, it's such an interesting listen

2024-01-13 20:26:34 +0000 UTCloved the reaction! came here from youtube bc sandcastles is my favorite song and the audio was cut lol but i love to hear you guys appreciate her creativity. if you guys wouldn’t mind reacting to a documentary i could definitely recommend homecoming which was her production for coachella, its on netflix & it really reflects the density of her creative process as both a vocalist and a performer.
2024-01-12 00:51:33 +0000 UTCAs a beehive card holder, YOU HAVE TO listen to ‘4’ before ‘self titled’ I think ‘I AM Sasha fierce’ can be a good start but has some radio hits that might be too familiar (but is a great album of classics nevertheless). But let’s do her the respect and listen chronologically.

2024-01-09 14:40:31 +0000 UTCnot saying anything that hasn't been said at this point since i'm late to the thread, but i'm really glad you're continuing the beyoncé listens! the renaissance reaction was what got me to subscribe, so i'm glad to see the patreon subscription paying off haha. i'm very excited to see the self-titled listen thru, as that's the album that truly made me forever part of the hive! like other's have said, it is a monumental album and was record-breaking at the time, changed the music industry (friday drops and no promo/surprise album drops), popularized visual albums, and just expanded her artistry tenfold. it kind of set the bar for herself, and is why a lot of the reverence people have for her is so extreme. she puts in SO much work for her artistry, it's hard for others to stack up. i recommend 4 as well, as it's a notable mark in her artistry in that it was the first album she put out on her own from her own label and production company. very much a record she put out on her own terms, and she has continued to follow that trend with each album henceforth, really honing in on her artistry with every album that followed. it is hard to separate the songs from the visuals when it comes to her albums! self-titled, lemonade, black is king (the gift). she is THE visual album queen. everything is love is a must-listen as well, if only to complete this trilogy of lemonade/4:44/everything is love. and the gift is a massively underrated, under-the-radar album that is truly SO well made, and explores an entirely different sound she had been wanting to explore since making 4. absolutely worth the listen! lastly, homecoming and the most recent renaissance world tour film are truly amazing and give you an even more in-depth behind-the-scenes look into her process. i believe there was even an hour TV special about the making of the gift somewhere out there, but it's not a full-blown film project like the other two. i really hope you two watch her visuals someday, and hopefully make a vid of it! it's like peeling another layer to the beyoncé onion, so multi-faceted. anyway, thanks for the great content, cheers!
