This is my current favorite spread, probably out of all of my sketchbooks.
All of these are drawn from life with a General’s and CarbOthello charcoal pencil. The CarbOthello is a little harder so I use it for a rough sketch to place everything, and the General’s is super soft. I have two but I never know which I’m using. One is 557-4B Soft and the other is 557-6B Ex. Soft.
I try to let mistakes go, but sometimes they’re too much or there’s just one in an otherwise good drawing. My solution is some white gouache. It’s not an invisible fix, but that’s ok! It adds personality.
I got this idea from looking at the work of Eduard Thöny. It gives me a second chance while still staying authentic.
