Return of the Runebound Professor - Chapter 902

Comments

After thinking about it for some time. What if the "False" Heralds were people/beings who are focusing purely on a single concept in their runes? For the lizard guy, it was most likely disease For Noah, its Disasters For Moxie(I think she is on the list as well) its Plants. As she got her Life-Death-Life cycle recently via master rune. The reason they are False heralds... is because they got to their concepts as emergent properties of their component runes. While Orlen got his Chaos runes from pure chaos energy apparently without combining up to them.

Og wanted me to *ge* more powerful

John Smith

This reads unusually: I believe he had managed to solidify *multiple more* Pure Rank 7 Chaos Runes within himself. Perhaps just *more* Pure Chaos runes.

John Smith

Edit suggestions: Og wanted me to ge more powerful ==> Og wanted me to get more powerful “That part his hardly secret,” Noah said. ==> “That part is hardly secret,” Noah said.

Yeah I hear what you’re saying. My guess is I think there’s probably a multiple or compounding or some other word for it, for the errors in a rune. So if you have a pure rune that is 99.99999% flawless, but a tiny part isn’t. As you rank up that tiny part becomes more and more dangerous / bigger? But a rune that is 100% flawless…. Zero times a billion is still zero after all

Tommy

Perhaps the key to a Pure path with runes is simply that they all need to be flawless. Perhaps the instability people get causing them to implode is simply if you had seven rank five fire runes and some of them weren't flawless, you would combine a rune that had more fire power, using easy numbers for my example, say your runes had 110 fire damage and a soul that could only contain 100 fire damage. Or along similar lines, if say Todd, kept focusing on fire runes but he had a few earth and other elements mixed in, say lava themed runes, the same logic would apply, a soul that could only contain 100 fire and 10 earth but the combinations lead to 110 fire, causing im-boom. But he would still be focused heavily on fire from the outsiders perspective.

John Smith

I like the demon connection but he's also has ties with divinity or creating god runes, when Noah started ascending with his cobbled together rank 6 he got similarly scatter brained. I would have to assume a genius as he was described would have a rune of self. I wonder if because his runes are all chaos, is his soul unusually small or unusually large for his rank?

John Smith

Or is possible Noah's soul being so different is why Sievan couldn't track him more than or being impossible and Vivian had made it clear she can't do a lot with the fraction heads nearby. She was in a meeting when Noah did something with the Beyond and she couldn't act on it then for similar reasons.

John Smith

well if Noah was as strong as he is insane then Noah would be the strongest

I'm picking up on a few clues. Wizen had spelled it "Lorne" - presumably intentionally. Chaos doesn't explain why he would do that. Then, it seems like you can track people after having seen them in a way. It's strange that Og and Sievan could do it but not Vivian. Orlen's focus on chaos is weird. That hints of a much grander plan if you're going to accept potential death for your experiments. That man is on a crazy mission. Not sure it's ascension alone though. It also makes it unlikely that anyone could be a god called chaos - too pure. Judgement, Decras, and Renewal, they all reflect combinations into concepts. But chaos with a pure focus divine rune appears unlikely. It might be that Noah is becoming pure chaos by understanding the mechanics behind chaos better than anyone and gearing towards a flawless chaos divine rune. This would map well to his regular antics, bullshit and messing up everything he gets entangled with. Perhaps that is why he gets called the false Herald. Herald has to also act on a grand scheme. This would get in the way of Orlen's assumed plans and would put Noah on a competing trajectory. Especially since he is hinted to ascend at his next rank up and being set up at the center of a massive game he cant compete with in his current form...

Theory: Orlens personality change is the direct result of the same thing that happens when demons reach rank 7. But because Orlen is a human and not a demon, the path that led to the same outcome for him was different from that of the demons. Maybe, when Orlen created a rank 7 Pure chaos rune it developed a will of its own and gradually started forcing its own will and agenda onto Orlen. And the only reason it could do that was because there was no balance within the rank 7 rune from an Order based rune. And unlike with demons, where the moment they reach rank 7 and the rune takes over immediately, Orlen is human so the take over started at rank 7 and over time, with each new rank 7 rune he created he became more of a pawn to the will of Chaos and its agenda. Which would be the reason why no one saw any personality changes at first, until it was too late. If the above theory is correct, somewhat correct or not correct at all, then maybe what went wrong with him could have been prevented if Orlen had a sense of self rune. Essentially, the same solution to fixing the demons' problem is also the solution for Orlen. Because, every time there is a pov change to Orlen it seems like a supercharged version of scatterbrained mixed with a severe lack sense of self. Also, I bet where Orlen has been hiding all this time was in Arbalest. After all, with what Sieven told Noah about how he knew Orlen had a hand in the creation of Arbalest, the last place no one would think to look for him is in Arbalest. Especially if having a Pure Chaos rune effectively makes it impossible for anyone to detect him. And by seeing to it some of his truth seekers get Chaos runes, he made it possible for them to travel undetected where they want and able to pass through the barrier that denotes Arbalests borders without being detected by both prophets people when doing so. And that guess is based on when Noah used the Chaos energy from his Chaos rune to punch through Orlens domain at the Masquerade. Other theories and guesses anyone?

After some thought, if a pure/base fire Rune is a stable pattern that represent the concept of fire, we can see Chaos as the pattern that represents the distabilization of patterns. Noah has also mentioned that the Runes that went into Unraveling Disruption seem kind of muted, like they're not there, unless you're actually looking for them. With this line of thinking, we can say that Unstable Pandemonium, Noah's original imperfect Rank 5 Rune, was not pure Chaos because it was still obviously composed of its ingredient Runes. In comparison, the upgraded Unraveling Disruption doesn't look like its constituents, but rather a uniform Chaos Rune. Interesting

Exarion

What the hell is a "pure Chaos" Rune? As far as we know, unlike everything else like fire, water, and whatnot that have pure, basic Runes, there is no such thing for Chaos on this planet. Doesn't this mean that all Chaos Runes that get generated are a mixture of their components and Chaos, thus impure? Or did Orlen go finding pure Chaos Runes in some hidden dimension? IMO, it's more likely that a "pure" Chaos Rune is just one that has Chaos as its major expression. In this case, it would mean Noah's Unraveling Disruption is one of these pure Chaos Runes. Not sure why it's referred to as "pure", but lemme move on with my musings. The part of the universe that contains this planet/world is under the control of a faction of gods of Order. It's been noted that they make it their mission to purge planets where any significant amount of Chaos rears its head. It is likely that the Truthseekers refer to mages who use Chaos magic in this Order-dominated Realm as heralds of Chaos (look up the definition of herald) because they literally conjure Chaos out of nothing. To them, Orlen/Lorne is the "True" herald because he's the strongest known Chaos mage. Based on all this, I suspect he has gotten stuck somewhere and now would rather kill other Chaos mages and integrate their Runes

Exarion

I feel doubtful someone so dedicated to Chaos would have done that. I am guessing he did go full Chaos, but the problem is the severe inbalance we learned about in this whole general section of existence. We know theres a cosmic inbalance, that Order is currently winning, and that supposedly the natural forces eventually attempt to push things back into balance. So I'm feelin like Orlen got so much pure Chaos that rather than become a God, he instead became akin to an Avatar of natural Chaos. Except... its *Chaos*. So, mostly crazy as a result, but still somehow managing to plan over centuries and have his plans work out in the end.

Emily Gurnavage

Did Orlen try to have both order and chaos ?
