Important decision for the future of this story

Hello everyone!

As you all know, I recently slashed my price a lot. I want to continue my page at this price, but there is a problem with Patreon's high user charges and taxes. Because of this, I'm thinking of migrating this story to either Ko-fi, or Buy Me A Coffee. I haven't used any of these platforms, so I'm not fully sure about them, but from my limited research both have their own pros and cons.

Option 1 Ko-fi: It is very cheap because it charges a very small fixed amount from me monthly ($8) to offer the same story. So even if only 8 of you move there, I'd recover the cost. A big con for this platform is that they don't have a dedicated phone app. If we migrate here, you would have to read the story on a web browser. One work around I can think of is that I will upload the story as a downloadable PDF file that you can read in your PDF viewer in phone.

Option 2 Buy Me A Coffee: They charge 5% commission for each subscription. That may seem substantial, but seeing as Patreon charge around ~14% after taxes and stuff, it seems quite low. The only reason I'm considering BMC is that they have dedicated phone apps for both Apple and Android users.

Option 3 Remain on Patreon: I know it is difficult to move from a platform you are used to, it will be for me as well. But for every $10 you spend, I get only $8.6 on average. That is why I want your honest opinion about this.

Don't worry, this is just to gauge user reactions. I'm not moving platforms as of yet, and if I do, I'll give you a good head start.

I want you to choose which option would you prefer going forward. If any of you have used these platforms before, you can tell me more in the comments or DM me.

As I've said before, Patreon will remain. There is a reason it is the most used platform. But at least those people who don't have multiple subscriptions can transfer over there.

While I hate what Patreon is doing, becoming as bad as PayPal... I dislike having several different platforms to read things with credit card access. It's bad enough keeping track of other auto transactions for streaming. Unless all of my patreons move it's just another inconvenient app to keep up to date on...

Glad to know that!

TheLazyWarrior

Just checked out ko-fi on my iphone, the site is really easy to interact with.

I do use it, this should have the info about costs and whatnot, https://www.subscribestar.com/help

There's this - https://ko-fi.com/post/Connect-Ko-fi-to-Your-Favourite-Apps-with-Zapier-T6T04M6NK It can probably post to a member only discord which does have a mobile app.

random_debuff

I don't know about that platform much. Do you use it?

TheLazyWarrior

Would subscribestar work as an alternative?

Micheal Dye

Ko-fi is my personal choice tbh.

TheLazyWarrior

Voted for kofi but happy with whatever. I'm going to keep reading on the platform you end up on, I have about 30 tabs with Internet fiction open at any given point so no issue using website. If you send email with a link, that's fine. I had read somewhere that kofi was a better platform but know nothing about it.id say pick the thing that works for you.

pCiaran

I've no idea lol. Convenience? Maybe it doesn't matter

David Karlsson

What's stopping pirates from copying the story and sharing it?

TheLazyWarrior

I read on phone, on the other hand wouldn't pdf be a piracy concern?
