This episode is one of my favourites and I think it's probably the best example of how thoughtfully this show is written. The whole set up with Johnny accidentally outing Patrick, yes we had a quick minute of "oh shit where is this going" but it meant that we got to enjoy Patrick coming out to his parents knowing he'd be met with love and support. And the way Patrick realised they already knew and discussed it with David before show end so we can continue to enjoy their relationship going forward without any secrets between them. Perfect execution.
