GLEE | 4x12 'Naked'

Rachel participated in some vocal masturb@tion. 💀 Dueting yourself is the peak of self indulgence, I swear. 🤣

when i think about this script for this ep i always think about the fact that Lea Michele did get "topless" for the broadway play "Spring Awakening" when she was really young. And i know the writers loved to incorporate real life events from the actors into the script so i wonder if they also did with that.

Wow, cool! Thanks!

I interned at Sara Bareilles' label shortly after her first album came out. You are correct about the background with "Love Song". It was an open secret there. So it's kind of perfect for this scene.

I can see why initially 'Love Song' feels like an odd choice. But it's my understanding that Sara Bareilles' context behind the song is that her music label or producer was pressuring her to write certain types of songs from a marketing standpoint, rather than let her create something authentic. So I always thought this song was like a middle finger to the commercial, corporate side of the music industry. With that context in mind, the song does parallel with Rachel's storyline of choosing when an artistic decision is right for her, based on her own timeline and not solely on someone else's agenda. So I think the song ultimately fits really well, even if it's not as 'on the nose' as some other songs (I'm looking at you, 'Heroes' by David Bowie in Dynamic Duets). 😂

This is one of the episodes that I skip most of the storylines to listen to some of the music. I think it's funny that in the Rocky Horror episode where Finn spent the episode ruminating about his own body issues, Sam was the one to help him out. Yet now Sam has the body issues despite everyone telling him how good he looks. It very much overshadowed Artie's POV on the subject in this ep. I just really hate what they did with Sam's character in v4. Santana looks so good in this episode lol. Love the reference back to the sex tape.

Santana is hilarious and Quinn is always missed. First time I prefer the New York storyline over the ones at the school and not just because Quintana but it's good that Rachel had real struggles or situations that challenge her now that she thinks she's Carrie from Sex and the city.. Can't wait for the next two episodes! Lots of things will happen.

I'm glad you enjoyed this episode, it's one of my favourites from the show. I don't even care that the songs are a bit forced into the storylines because they're SO good! I do know what you're saying about Marley, they could've handled her eating disorder better. But Glee is a comedy show and is made to be light hearted. They've brushed past and made fun of many sensitive topics in the past. Personally I'm kind of glad about that because the stuff with Marley is hard enough to watch as it is, if they'd really focused on it seriously I would've found that hard to watch. Glee is my comfort show because it's fun and happy and doesn't go deep with serious topics. That's rare. I hope what I'm saying makes sense and doesn't come across in the wrong way. 🤞 I really love all the stuff with Sam and Artie in this episode struggling with their body image. It's like you said, you rarely see male characters talking about that, especially characters as fit as Sam. It was great to see that. And I also love how they had guys of all shapes and sizes with their shirts off in the student movie scene with Rachel. 👌 Also I shipped Sam and Blaine SO much in this season lol, I still do. 😂 Now the next two episodes go INSANE! There are twists coming that you would never expect in a million years. Be ready. 👀

The tone of his voice is so soothing

I think Jake has the prettiest voice of all the guys on the glee cast

Leticia Schmitt

It looks to me like he was looking into a ring light during that song.

Love this episode. Especially with the return of my faves (Quinn and Santana). Yeah, I agree that they didn't put enough emphasis on the eating disorder storyline with Marley, which I think would have been great for her character development. I can see why it seems like Love Song doesn't fit, but in going over the lyrics, I can sort of see that the message that they are trying to convey is that Rachel isn't going to do something like a nude scene in a movie just to move her career forward, like she was saying in the beginning of the episode, it would have to be the right reasons and when she's ready. Love Song is about writing a love song because you want to, not just because someone wants you to, which parallels Rachel's storyline in this ep. I love that they brought Quinn and Santana back in to talk some sense into her and that they actually had continuity and referenced the sex tape that Brittany released during their senior year. It never sat right with me that she released it and they never mentioned the effect that it had on Santana. I'm glad they had her say something about it here. Plus, anytime Naya is on my screen, I'm thankful for it. I'm really glad that they are showcasing how good Blaine and Sam's friendship is. I love how they support each other. Plus Blaine got Santana to sing Trouty Mouth again! Oh, and I just love Jake...even more after this episode. Such a great singer, dancer, and actor.

Loved this reaction, Travis! I agree 100% with what you said at the end and appreciate you articulating that. I've always had a hard time with their handling of Marley's ED and feeling like if they were going to introduce the topic it should've been with more care and less levity. But I also recognize my bias due to my history with bulimia so it's nice to hear you think so too. I do really like the choice of "Let Me Love You" for Jake to sing to Marley because the lyrics were poignant and compassionate which was good to see after all the blaming, belittling, and brushing aside they've done of her/ her situation. Speaking of song choice, I never really noticed how out of place Love Song was until you said it! I LOVE that performance so much which might be why 😝 The girls sound amazing. I did always think the ending song was kinda random but I also love it and am so thankful for whatever lighting was used when they filmed the beginning that made Darren's eyes SPARKLE like that 🤩
