I absolutely love how many people I have been able to work with over my career over and over again. I can't remember off the top of my head when Hattie and I first shot 2011 or so? We're officially moving past Richard Linklater's 12 years of working on Boyhood...lol.
It feels so nice to have an entire generation of peers growing and working together over and over again. You can see how much we've changed in our ideas of art, our desires as people, our understandings of the world. When Hattie and I first shot my entire life was photography, sometimes I would shoot 30-40x a month, and I was so focused on getting everything done as fast as possible.
These days I take my time. I try to only shoot when I'm inspired. Allowing my artistic endeavors to head out in many directions. I never thought of myself as an especially talented artist. I still don't know if I believe in talent.
But it feels so good to try other mediums. Wood working, stone cutting, wine making, and just truly enjoying the nature of each one. Photography and writing were my first mediums, but I finally feel like I am finding other things I can learn. I think maybe I have always been a craft person. Carefully whittling down what I see in front of me into a photo.
