Print of the Month: January 2020

I talk a lot, well maybe not a lot, about my inspiration when it comes to photographers that I love , but there is more to this thing we call art than just the inspiration that gives us an idea when we are clicking the shutter.

To me there is art in light, art in shutter speed, art in concept, and art in display.

How many of us want to see our life's work printed in books?  Probably most.  I sure hope somebody cracks open my hard drives and puts together a Helmet Newton level retrospective of what I have done on this rock, but I'm also aware it may not happen.

Which is my odd and slightly incoherent way of getting to a day that I felt truly inspired at the The Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia.  You see it was there that I first really got the sense of the Genius of Audubon and his Elephent Folio's and it also there that I realized "Goddamnit I want to create an Elephent Folio."

Publishing a book of as an artist has always been difficult, so Audubon decided to release limited edition prints of his work in subscription, that his supporters then had bound into books.  435 pieces of art later and you had a complete collection of The Birds of America.

I'm not quite to the point where I can make my own Elephant Folio, but I do want to explore printing and releasing work in a more fun way, so starting now I will be offering a special edition of my work right here on Patreon.  See something you like jump up to the Print of the Month Tier and I will get it out to you!  Every month a new print, and there will be no repeats.

This month I'm bringing back my print of Kacie Marie "Nailing Honey to the Bee"  This image sold out in its 8.5x11" and 16x24" edition and hasn't been available since 2014
