Snaefellsnes Adventure with Lillias, Vaunt, and Svala
Added 2019-11-27 20:03:29 +0000 UTCFollowing our Arctic Nude workshop this year, a couple of us made a trip up to a part of Iceland we don't do on the main trip to explore, and scout out maybe a few potential locations for 2021's trip.
Usually I would do this sort of thing before the workshop, but the timing was to tight, so Lillias, Svala, Nicole, and I took a semi-relaxing journey up with the goal of getting one photo...we did not get that photo. In the years since I last visited Kirkjufell tourism in Iceland even late into September has exploded, and when we arrived at the location it was a cluster fuck of photographers waiting for first light to get a shot with the falls in the foreground and mountain in the background.
Also my memory of the scale of the waterfalls and angles that the shot would be possible from was entirely wrong. So, technically speaking the photo I had in my head was completely impossible. On top of that there have been numerous ropes and paths established, and in order to respect the farmers rules we decided to abandon all attempts at a waterfall shot.
So we hiked on a little further leaving the waterfall, the parking lot, and the 100 some odd photographers behind, and decided to shoot in the small lake further along. It was incredible as on top of the path where the falls are the wind is quite intense, but just down below in the valley the wind was calm and the water was much more still.
After our morning of shooting Svala took us to a completely off the map location that absolutely blew me away. Jagged volcanic fields, and moss with beautiful mountains far off in the distance. We experienced rain, sun and clouds in just a few moments, but in-between the moments of rain we captured some incredible images.
I am really excited to plan our next Iceland workshop and considering maybe running two options in 2021 where we visit different parts of the island.
