One of the beautiful things about photographing people is that, as an artist, it is impossible to create in a vaccum. I will never really be able to see my work as just my work free from the opinion of others. Every person that steps in front of my camera brings with them their own interpretation and ideas about my work. Its a give and take I talk about a lot. No photographer that works with models it out there doing it all on their own, myself included.
This constant exposure to new people and new ideas, it makes for progress. As a person and as an artist it is impossible not to grow and learn when every day you have a new person from a completely different walk of life coming through your door. I think that if I were to have stayed in Philly I probably could have kept working Temperance forever. The challenge to create new images with new people can be hard, but some days it was so easy.
As December quickly passes I'm already looking at the intense amount of work that I have to do to make this book happen. Many of my earlier images need re-edited, and I need to start tearing through the thousands of photos to pick out finals for the book. I'm not great at dwelling on my own work, and doing what it takes to promote something once it is finished. I have a hard time as I live the longest with these creations. The photo shoot happens and over weeks or months I edit, then I work on blog posts, upload to social media, and even more months go by. Sometimes I forget that you will all be seeing these for the first time, while I may have been looking at, playing with, and brooding over them for a year, and seeing them in print it will be the first time for all of us to look at them outside of a browser or app.
I'm excited, nervous, and anxious about this project.
