While I was in Melbourn, Australia I got to meet and work with the incredible Puffin. We spent two days exploring some fairly far away locations that I really fell in love with.
Our first day trip Nicole, Puffin and I made it out to Half Moon Bay where we found some amazing sand stone formations to shoot in. Despite the fact that it was a very sunny day I loved the location. We hiked up to the top where the shade gave us the best light to work with, and then slowly worked our way down the cliffs as the sun dropped lower in the sky and more and more of the cliffs became shootable. Initially I focused on shooting with my 50mm F1.4 to keep the field of view a little bit smaller, and less depth of field. This let me throw some of the specular highlights out of focus, and focus the images more on the subject.
As the scene became more dynamic and light more favorable I switched over to the 17-40mm F4L so that I could capture more of the scenery.
On day two of my Melbourn adventure we drove all the way out to Turpin Falls with June from my earlier and first outdoor Ask the Dust post. Turpin Falls was the first place in Australia that I found autumn. There were beautiful changing leaves reflected in the water of what I think was an old quarry. It was a magical and peaceful place to shoot. One I am so happy to have found.
I primarily used the 85mm F1.4 here as I loved how using the low depth of field near the surface of the water created some truly beautiful images.
