As we get ready for our next trip I remembered the last days of our 2 month trip in 2015. As we crossed North Dakota making our way home I saw the storms starting to circle the ground in the rear-view mirror. I started to get nervous. I asked Nicole to google the signs of a tornado, and not 30 seconds later the emergency alerts started going off on our phone. Five tornado's had touched down within 30 minutes of us.
We pulled over two minutes later and hid in the shelter of a rest area, and watched the storm pass us by. The rain came so hard that the water forced its way through the seals of the windows. The wind sounded like a freight train.
When the skys started to clear we walked back out to our car. The windshield wipers had been broken, and the front passenger seat had about two inches of water in it. The highway ahead of us was littered with overturned big rigs and lined with broken power lines where the tornadoes had torn across the highway.
Looking ahead we so the clouds of the storm heading off into the distance, and were amazed by the way the light danced off the clouds.
