Wet Plate Workshop

When I initially started Patreon I wasn't entirely sure what direction I wanted to go in with my work.  If I'm being honest I'm still not.  I've known for a long time that I wanted to start working in the Collodion process at some point, but Nicole and I shooting Into the Wild and living out of a car doesn't really leave much time for experimenting, chemical mixing, and what not, so for now its on the back burner.

While we were in San Fransisco the past couple of days though, Brian Sullivan (b7lab.tumblr.com) was kind enough to teach me the art of Wet Plate photography, and allow me to use some of his equipment, and I'm honestly in love with it.  It has been years since I've been hands on in a darkroom, and I'd really forgotten how much I love it.  Sitting at the computer editing is probably my least favorite part of this entire process, so standing over a plate as it clears in the fixer is a pretty magical feeling that has been missing for a while.

For this shoot I was really just trying to get the hang of things.  Properly flowing a plate, figuring out exposure times, which range from 9-30 seconds, and getting back into swing of things with using large format.

I'm so excited to be able to show these with you all and give you a glimpse of things to come.

Very nicely done! I love seeing you explore and work on things that interest you and find what you like. Keep at it! I look forward to more.

I am excited for two things - this wonderful set of images and the excitement that you wish to explore the dark room again ! I am amazed by what comes with digital photography - but do not ever wish to see traditional photography disappear ! Happy if you had time to do more as a practitioner - there is art there ! ~ safe travels !
