[Ad-Free] STORY: How ALIEN'S Xenomorph Was Made (1/2)

In this episode, we dive into Ridley Scott’s quest to make an Alien that didn’t look like “a man in a rubber suit.” From wild early ideas (contortionists and basketball players) and budget-driven pivots, to Carlo Rambaldi’s ingenious mechanical head and the frantic race to finalize designs, we'll begin the ultimate deep dive into the creation of the Xenomorph after a full year of research.

You’ll see how a chance pub sighting led to casting Bolaji Badejo, why Giger took over building the suit himself, the evolution of that iconic eyeless dome and second set of jaws, and the behind-the-scenes chaos that shaped Big Chap into a terrifying, elegant, and wholly unique creation.

So cool!

I just got back from two weeks in Switzerland and got to see all of this stuff in person at the HR Giger museum. Perfect timing for this to come out!

Glad you liked it! It was very interesting to learn how much they were scrambling behind the scenes and how much Ginger was pulling hair out considering they delivered such an iconic monster that’s still carrying the franchise. This has been one of the most difficult videos to make because of the extensive research covering tons of various threads and arcs.

Great episode as always! (Laughed out loud at the Aristocrats bit and the Dark Star beachball). So fascinating to see how multiple atists and engineers tried to combine Giger's design with workable mechanisms and a human actor. Also, for whatever reason, it clicked while watching just how much work must go into sourcing and editing all these videos. 😵‍💫 Great work!
