Nicole Vaunt and Anastasia Arteyeva for Temperance

I've wanted to work with Anastasia since the first time I saw a photo of her. Her ability to express/emote in every photo she is a part of is really unparalleled, and the way she moves in front of the camera is really magical to witness.

I was very nervous when the opportunity for us to collaborate presented itself. I'm always very nervous the first time I work with somebody who I feel has made so much amazing work, and who I want to not let down. The first shoot can translate into being a one time thing, or an ongoing collaboration. I try to use that pressure to drive my creativity.

Including Vaunt as a part of this shoot made it much easier. Vaunt is my creative partner, and of the two of us she is much more outgoing. We also have worked together for so long that we can really work off of each other to create even better images. Combined with Anastasia's skill in front of the camera in one evening the three of us made many of my favorite images for Temperance to date. Both in Gif and still form.

I'm leaning more and more towards taking Temperance in the thematic direction I took my old series Journey to The End of The Night. The way that I can build and mold my set for Temperance I feel lends itself to much more complex images, and will benefit that much more from complex idea's incorporated. I'm also likely going to begin shooting some of the images on Collodion, a type of wet plate photography. I learned photography primarily on Large Format cameras, and have long wanted to go back to that. I'm looking forward to 2015 being the year I finally do it.
