Sometimes you go looking for a location with all the information you think you need, and you fail. My first attempt to find Panther Creek Falls was with Vaunt, while we were working on our PNW 2015 Calendar. We drove miles and miles into the forest at the base of mount hood looking for the right pull off, waiting in the rain, asking for directions before we finally gave up, and headed to the Oregon Coast. That failure just made my desire to shoot at this beautiful waterfall more intense though.
So I went back 4 times, By my last trip to the falls I knew the turn off, the trail down, and the hidden second trail like the back of my hand. My first successful trip to the bottom of the falls was my third drive out with Bully Suicide. We spent hours climbing all over finding ourselves stranded on multiple cliff faces looking down, until we managed to get on the correct path. We shot during the setting sun, which happens much earlier in a deep forest valley, and she was amazing. Dealing with incredibly cold temperatures, and even colder water.
My last trip out I went with Thumbelina and Apnea, Now knowing every thing I needed to about getting around the forest we had much more time to explore the falls and the forest around the falls. Taking our time to use those same daunting cliffs as before as backgrounds, the turn offs covered with beautiful ferns I had mistaken for the right place as the perfect setting, and again lay below that beautiful waterfall that had caused me so much trouble.
