Orc Mess Hall [33x46]

Hi everyone!

When the orcs are finally done fighting, they of course retire to their mess hall, drink copious amounts of home brewed grog, feast on whatever they can get their hands on and inevitably end up fighting some more against one another in the fighting pit!

Alongside this release too, we have also created a brand new scene and a full token pack. Check them out and take a look at the full versions below:

If you've got an idea for something we could create more of in another themed release month, please drop them into our suggestions page!

Get this week's maps using the links below and sorry for the large file sizes on this one! There are a lot of details in the map which unfortunately inflates the file size significantly:

Hi Matthew, Thanks for this, we're rehashing the module right now. We should have it up soon and we'll ping you back here once uploaded.

Ryan Haden

The Foundry module for this isn't working, in Foundry the scene is referencing map files from Wuxia Tavern, all that comes through in the scene is the lighting effects since the referenced map files are incorrect and when referencing the correct file the lighting isn't correct.

Matthew J Huffman

We're protective over our master files and don't like the idea of the PSDs becoming public. It gives us much more control over our own work.

The spear is just meant to be cool. For an orc chief, 17ft would be manageable. Real world spears are often 6-12ft in length. Some, like the sarisa or pike were over 20ft in length. For a tall muscular orc we could expect even bigger. As for chairs/tables/normal objects, we use two sizing methods. The first is 1 grid = 5ft and the second is 1 grid = 1 player token. If we imagine seats around a table, each player will want to occupy each, so on a VTT each token will need a separate grid space. This looks weird at a scale of 1 grid = 5ft because a chair is definitely not 5ft wide. We try to create a happy medium between these two sizing considerations but at the end of day, the map is just a representation of space and isn't intended to be perfect.

As usual I love the maps, and the immense detail involved. One question, (and this may be explained somewhere but I've not come across it), I'm curious about the gridded scale. I always use the gridless and add my own grid to scale and split for printing on an A3 printer, and when I do this I notice I need to alter the scale from the grid you've included quite a lot. Everyday items like a bed, or chair, are at an outsized scale on your gridded maps, including beds between 10 and 15 feet in length, chairs over four feet wide, and in the mess hall on the biggest "chief's" bed is a spear that looks about 17 feet long based on a 5 foot sqaure grid. Are these intended to be on a 5 foot grid scale?

Erik Niemi

Oh that's interesting, I had no idea I'll be sure to check it out. Have you considered releasing the layers yourself to save other people the trouble? I assume you have the separate layers anyway due to the way you release the maps

Didier Westlake

We don't usually do that no, but we have an active community on the Discord who edit the maps and make their own variations and cut things out for that purpose. :)

Cze and Peku

Do you ever release parts of the map as separate assets/images? For example ideally I'd like the building from this map on a transparent background so I could either place it on another background, or have it free floating on the ocean (as with your scenes) or floating in space or clouds within a spelljammer campaign.

Didier Westlake

We hope your players enjoy it!

Ryan Haden

Oh You Absolute legend. This is perfect for my campaign. The players are just about to head to here. Gotta Love Cze and Peku

Great map!
