Foundry VTT Update
Added 2021-08-22 23:50:32 +0000 UTCHi everyone!
Thanks again to everyone who took the time to respond to the various polls and questionnaires here and on Discord. There was a lot to read but we're super grateful to have such active patrons!
From the first week of October we'll be moving the Foundry VTT files from the $5 tier to the $10 tier.
Just so everyone is clear on what this means: this only affects the Foundry specific walls/dynamic light files that are available from this post.
If you use our jpeg files or our PDF files, nothing will be changing for you.
All the jpeg maps and variations will still be available for $5 tier patrons. The only thing moving is the files we provide for Foundry VTT.
Why are we doing this? This is to cover the costs of hiring someone dedicated to creating the Foundry files for us and setting up the walls and lighting (his name is Ryan, please say hi!). Most importantly the cost is there to cover the coming updates to Foundry VTT which will likely mean updating all of our VTT files. This is means though that we'll be able to get the Foundry versions to you sooner and Ryan will also be around to answer questions on the Discord if you have any issues with any of them.
We're telling everyone this way in advance so that there's a whole month between now and the change over. This means you can download Foundry zip files and then decide whether you want to increase your pledges or not in future.
A frequent request has been for a master module, which we won't be providing for a multitude of reasons, not least as it would be almost unusable due to how Foundry indexes compendiums on load. All of our maps and variations comes to about 23gb of files, which no one wants to have to have to load up each time they boot up Foundry.
But one of Ryan's first tasks in October will be renaming all of the Foundry files so they're consistent and make it easier for users to group our modules together.
We plan to also prepare our Foundry files for those users who use the Moulinette Cloud module, which will provide even easier sorting and access to our maps.
We hope these quality of life changes will make DMing easier for everyone.
Thank you for being understanding. Also stick around because we'll be releasing a new map after this post! :)

Moulinette will be integrated when the new post goes up later today. :)

2021-10-20 16:06:27 +0000 UTCWell, I wouldn't double cost, but after Moulinette integration is finished - that would be another question :D

2021-10-20 15:42:56 +0000 UTCI am so HYPED about Moulinette integration. It makes building scenes on forge so easy.

2021-10-16 21:36:15 +0000 UTCThat's exactly right. We won't be changing those links unless a pack needs updating for some reason, which seems unlikely. So you should be able to grab those from your text file for the foreseeable future.

2021-10-15 23:23:59 +0000 UTCHi! When you say you don't plan to change the foundry links, do you mean the links that point to the dropbox.../.json or the links inside of the json? Currently I have a txt file saved of all of the dropbox links that point to the jsons for whenever I want to bring in some maps to my foundry, but now I'm wondering if I should have downloaded the full json files themselves.

2021-10-10 09:52:45 +0000 UTCThanks for letting me know! I'll grab a few and make the call after playin them this weekend. Good luck with the new artist~

2021-10-01 20:01:24 +0000 UTCHi Dee, we don't plan to change the current Foundry links. They may change over time as we update things but we've no intention of purposefully changing them to lock people out. So you can still grab them in the next few days before we transition to the $10 tier. :)

2021-10-01 19:20:16 +0000 UTCWelp, mazel tov. I haven't use your stuff as much as I prolly shoulda. I'll think about upping or getting out. In any case, good luck~you do gorgeous work!~

2021-10-01 13:28:28 +0000 UTCHi Ryan! And thanks for doing this, because yes... it is time consuming! :P

2021-09-29 03:09:08 +0000 UTCHopefully! We won't put up the price until Ryan comes onboard full time to sort out the Foundry issues and integrate Moulinette. :)

2021-09-22 08:38:47 +0000 UTCThis is great to hear! Do you expect the Moulinette integration to also be ready the first week of October? :)

2021-09-07 13:49:55 +0000 UTCAs far as I'm aware, Moulinette is $2 per month, so it isn't free. But just because we're giving the option to use Moulinette doesn't mean you need Moulinette to use the VTT files from now on, it's an optional extra for those who want it. As for renaming files, i think it should be possible to update the files without changing the links. I don't want to promise that but i've been told it should be possible.

2021-09-07 12:08:11 +0000 UTCPS Your plan sounds good! Thanks for thinking about all those ease-of-use things like loading times and file sizes and file labeling!
Laura
2021-09-01 16:43:44 +0000 UTCThanks for the update! Since the files will be renamed, the old jsons we have access to now won't work in the future - am I understanding that correctly? (Wondering if I should expect the ones I had saved to break.) Also, is Moulinette free to use? I haven't been using it partly just because I didn't want to take on another monthly subscription. But maybe I was misunderstanding that part - ?

2021-09-01 16:40:41 +0000 UTCI didnt really use Foundry to begin with so no sweat off my back, but hi Ryan!

2021-08-28 20:06:41 +0000 UTCYou are correct. I am a dork. Totally missed that. As silly as that seems that changes my view of things. As soon as that feature works I would probably move to the $10 bucket because that reduces the amount of data I have to store on the system and keeps things easy to find and manage. Thank you for pointing out that I missed this.

2021-08-24 20:53:34 +0000 UTCOh, I think you missed one of the paragraphs, we are going to be using Moulinette! :)

2021-08-24 20:16:29 +0000 UTCWell... I understand the decision yet I'm not interested in doubling the costs, especially when they already have to be loaded manually and it sounds like there's no intention of building a management tool or publishing them through an existing platform like Moulinette to make management easier. If management becomes easier than the price point may become worthwhile and I think Moulinette might be the best option there as it looks like it would allow you to publish a thumbnail (take a look at how Bailywiki publishes through that platform) and does not require loading of the files to your server until you select the scene. It also has some kind of Patreon integration which helps manage user access to work through level of membership. You do great work and the advance notice is very appreciated.

2021-08-24 12:45:30 +0000 UTCBummer but I totally get it. Maintaining the high quality of maps takes investment. Thanks for all the great work CP Team.

2021-08-24 01:08:41 +0000 UTCThank you very much! I'll be happy to upgrade to $10. Thank you to Ryan as well =)

2021-08-23 20:23:53 +0000 UTCI'm sorry you feel that way. Just to reiterate the rationale: me and Peku are both just artists, we design and draw the maps. If patrons would like us to add this extra functionality to our Patreon and that requires hiring someone to do that role, then we need to cover the cost of their salary, so that's what we're doing. I hope that makes sense.
Cze and Peku
2021-08-23 15:44:52 +0000 UTCworth every cent, will most definitely upgrade to 10$
Frank Albers
2021-08-23 15:22:23 +0000 UTCWith 30K $ per map pack, this simply sucks.
Chaan
2021-08-23 13:45:33 +0000 UTCI'm definitely going to have to pull support for another map maker to justify staying $10. I've actually been contemplating going back to $5 for Cze and Peku, but I can't stop using these maps. Best quality around, imo.

2021-08-23 12:05:22 +0000 UTCI can't really justify moving up a tier myself, but totally understand the need to move it up when it requires so much constant attention. Will miss them ;-;
2021-08-23 09:01:51 +0000 UTC+1 I assume we simply lose access to the master post but it would be great to have confirmation

2021-08-23 07:48:40 +0000 UTCThank you RYAN! <3 Gladly pay $10 for your amazing work! Would it be possible to have a "Map pack"? (smaller pack, city, mountain, underdark, etc) Yes! I can't wait for the re-name, it's a huge QoF when selecting the module I want for my session.

2021-08-23 05:03:16 +0000 UTCThanks for the update! Be sure to put Ryan in touch with us, we have some tips for building Scene compendium packs which can dramatically improve their efficiency so you don't have the types of problems you mention in the post!

2021-08-23 01:51:42 +0000 UTCHi Ryan! What will happen to patrons who stay at the $5 tier (who previously had access to the Foundry VTT files)? Will the existing VTT map files (that I've already added to our Foundry install) still be accessible via the old .json files or will we lose access to those, when Ryan reorganizes everything?
Joseph Joffe
2021-08-23 01:12:45 +0000 UTCFor now E+ will be staying at the $5 tier. :) We get free help from the E+ team to make those modules (thanks George!) and there hasn't been any major updates causing any trouble to the existing modules. So there's no reason to up the price.
Cze and Peku
2021-08-23 00:42:01 +0000 UTCWill the Encounter+ modules be moving to the $10 tier as well?
