POD 133: Dr. Andrew Gallimore on DMTx on a DMT island

This is a great and far-ranging discussion with chemist and neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Gallimore about his continuous DMT infusion project (DMTx) and his new book Death by Astonishment.

I’ve often wondered if DMT can be endogenously released during other psychedelic states when the lines between conscious/subconscious/unconscious are metaphorically blurred and one can convince their own brain momentarily of their death. Where a “I believe I’m dying” thought can trigger DMT release

Also agree with others that you should keep talking aboit Psymposia. I thought years ago the stuff they were saying was unhinged and crazy. I couldnt understand why people were taking them seriously. Glad they are finally being exposed and delegitamized. They did huge damage to MAPs and psychedelic legalization.

I am skeptical about these reports of diazapam being found in dead bodies or endogenously. Any links to these studies? Im analytical chemist and would be curious to see the level of evidence presented.

Dr. Galimore's opinion that the DMT entities are not Jungian archetypes made me think an encounter I had with an anthropomorphic praying mantis on a psilocybe sclerotia trip. (There was also another being that had vague praying mantis vibes, but she didn't have a clear visual form + her hands felt like a human woman's hands so.) Afterwards I learned that praying mantises are a recurring entity type in the DMT space as well as in spontaneous alien encounters. I get the vibe that these entities are typically percieved to be some kind of alien species, but my experience of the was much closer to archetypes: they were personifications of universal principles. It made me wonder if people interpret similar experiences differently; or do different people experience different aspects of the same phenomena (so that different interpretations hold simultaneously true); or are the objects (i.e. entities) of these experiences themselves different? Idk. I've met in altered states of consciousness other entities/spirits that do appear to be more like individuals, i.e. they are particulars rather than universals. We particulars can communicate to one another more or less as equals, but I suspect that an extended contact with an universal entity would mess up bad the human psyche due to an information overload. Well - with the particulars the problem is that their interests can be at odds with your particular interests, so one has to be careful because the entities encountered might be malicious, predatory or parasitic. So yeah just wanted to write down some thoughts on the communication aspect too.

where can i read more about this NMDA peptide?

Psymposia's disinformation is of a completely different caliber though. I don't think it's fair to compare the two

It is pretty funny to support professor Dave’s pushback on science misinformation, while Dr. Andrew Gallimore is totally not misinforming the public by going on Joe Rogans pod to spiritualize neurobiology. Reinforcing the magically thinking that lends itself to conspiratorial thinking and willful ignorance of stone-cold facts. Still loved the pod and I think Andrew Gallimore is doing good work - just mislead, like much of the spiritual psychedelic science community. Rogan listeners don’t have the intelligence to discern real science from mysticism

“he can be in the metaphorical soil, doing his soil science forever” i could almost see the delicious contempt pouring from my airpods onto my eardrums, love it when hamilton digs in lmao

Excited to hear experimental pioneering stuff is still being done just for the sake of doing it, while most of the talk recently has been about legalisation, medicalization, pharmaceuticalization... Important topics too, but this was a welcome palette cleanser

Underreporting on Psymposia's activities is what led them to have such an influence. It shouldn't matter what the vote is. Talking about Psymposia is necessary.

Hamilton, I would very much like to hear you interview Dr Jack Allocca, a pharmacist who took part in the DMTx trials. He seems to have taken an awful lot of substances. And he says he has an agnostic stance on the nature of reality. Carl was a little too unscientific for some of your Patreons, from what I saw in the comments. I’m also really interested in what Anton Bolton briefly said in the panel discussion about his view of challenging experiences. All four men are worth interviewing in my perception. They all seemed to prepare mentally and physically for the trial. They sound a bit Ninja. 🥷 Would love to learn from them….
