Mushroom chemistry talk

Please enjoy an hour long talk where I discuss different fungal natural products. Note: during the Q&A I estimate the global consumption of GMP psilocybin to be a couple of grams, that's almost certainly too conservative, but I would imagine it's less than fifty grams. Q&A and much more coming out this week!

Love,

Hamilton

I think She’s asking if he sees a future for bioreactor produced psilocybin, and he said it is possible

Josh Lis

Yes I’ve seen that too, a shame really

Max van Oldeniel

Much more than that is actually produced, but I'm talking about the sum quantity of GMP psilocybin consumed in clinical and preclinical research by humans to date, can't be much more than 50 grams.

Hamilton Morris

I don't understand....only a couple grams of GMP psilocybin? I'd have guessed a couple orders of magnitude more - or is there a special category of GMP? (good or green manufacturing processes? Isn't that what it means, Hamilton?) Is that nice GMP route to MDMA starting from benzo[1,2]dioxide in use? I suppose it should be in the DEA production quota, although they don't mention the synthetic details.... Hmmm...looks like the DEA aggregate production quota for MDMA for 2024 is 12 kilograms, which is more than a little bit... it's a start! Psilocybin and psilocin clock in at 20 and 24 kg respectfully, so there ya go! https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2024/01/03/2023-28962/established-aggregate-production-quotas-for-schedule-i-and-ii-controlled-substances-and-assessment#:~:text=The%202024%20aggregate%20production%20quotas,to%20provide%20for%20the%20estimated. Thank you kindly for the talk everyone, interesting stuff!

Great talk, is that an unusual number of shirtless dudes for a talk like this?

Thank you Hamilton!

I had somehow completely missed Alexander Sherwoods paper "Structure Elucidation and Spectroscopic Analysis of Chromophores of Chromophores Producedby Oxidative Psilocin Dimerization" I genuinely thought this was still a complete mystery.

I am confused by the third question. She seems to state that the current method of production for therapeutic use is through GMO ecoli, but then she asks if we will be able to use bacteria in the future, and then Hamilton states that none of the three companies in phase 3 are using GMO bacteria to produce psilocybin. Can someone help me understand what she was asking?

Has patreon removed the community chat section? There used to be a section under Hamilton's page with community conversations but it seems to be gone now.

Great talk. You are a very patient person for responding to the first question with such a good attitude. Hard for me not to roll my eyes so hard they fall out of head. I'm glad you are the person out there as the embassador of psychedelic science in the world

Hi Hamilton! Are you able to share the full “Biotransformation of tryptamine” paper? My short and probably poor googling is yielding only the abstract. Additionally, what is your opinion on the reliability/truth of the research?

And I absolutely don't want to sound like I am not absolutely spoiled to live in a day and age where we can hear these talks and constantly build on the knowledge surrounding these organisms and thier compounds

Austin T.

Got ya, ya I feel alot of people are very recently interested in these topics and have not been horribly obsessed since a young age like others 🤣. When Hamilton mentions priceless commentary on topics like difficulty of synthesis of psilocybe compounds vs the also extremely difficult extraction, I find that beyond entertaining and awesome to listen to. Then he goes on to other amazing material like Gartz' work among other very niche and infinetly fascinating dialogoue. What gets me a little irritated every now again is when his beautiful work and pristine points of information get met with repetative questions along the lines of "natural vs synthetic" or other questions that are seemingly up to the individual to come to thier own conclusion with before taking his question time. I think the natural sources have a real magic about them but the questions regarded all that get asked at some goofy times. The questions are important as can be as far as I can tell and I am thankful you just wanted to talk Andrea🙏 much love, I am always open to talk. And much love to Hamilton for continously kicking ass and spreading the good info and opening up a full spectrum of dialogue!

Austin T.

Oh yeah, absolutely agree. Sorry my comment may have souded a little harsh and I didn't mean for it to be harsh or rude.

Austin T.

amazing lecture hamilton thank you

Jean-Luc Gannon

first guys question 🤣🤣🤣

Jean-Luc Gannon

Your patience is awesome man, I am glad you put up with the "simpler" questions. Your question answering is definetly enlightening for the masses and totally entertaining. Thanks a ton, hopefully we can see more people advancing Gartz's work among many other topics your brought up. Thanks again🙏🙏🙏

I love getting a patreon notification for new content from Hamilton while I'm rewatching an episode of Pharmacopeia at that very moment

Josh Galloway

This is why I’m a patreon member. No one else is sharing information like this at such an in-depth yet conversational level. Keep it up Hamilton! Soon you’ll have a spot on the MT. Rushmore of psychedelic history!

Hey Hamilton thanks for going to central PA ❤️
