An unnecessarily enormous hat tutorial.  Hopefully it contains some useful information or something amusing enough to justify its existence!

If you have any difficult viewing the image, please say so. I can make it available as a downloadable thing if necessary.
Also, if you happen to spot any typos or unclear wording, please let me know. You can only stare at a thing for so long before your capacity for discernment gets up and leaves the room.

I still want to do that face drawing tutorial, but I have to rev myself up for it. Even seemingly simple topics easily turn into unwieldy monstrosities like this. Faces are in a whole separate league of complexity.

I'll be posting some previews for the upcoming comic chapter soon. Would you like me to include the possibly spoilery thumbnails?
Pages for the chapter will start going up at the end of this month.

Your tutorials always give me a good belly-laugh AND learning, so this was money well-spent <3

You are just a gem and your tutorials and artistic endeavors are all amazing~

geckosart

Oh gosh, I just love your sense of humor. This is great. and very informative.

Ariel H

Working on a comic involving a straw hat on a ferret... because of you I'm making sure to include a goofy chinny strap.

Ferret Williams

Thank you Tracy for the best tutorial on hat drawing I've ever seen.

Craig Hilton

This is wonderful and useful and just seeing all the different hats you've drawn and some of the tweaks you do with them is super helpful too - thank you!

Thren

This is wonderful, and will go down among The Most Useful Things alongside your Construction and Expressions tutorials.

Ragnar Drayke

That introduction comic is GOLD.

Sanne Krueger

This is the best, I was struggling with hats just recently! And for like... my whole life, now that I think about it.

Sue Donem

I don’t know when I’ll get over chinny straps

Holden

Hmmm..., Rocky's hat does NOT sound like an innocuous Lancre Lappet-Faced Wowhawk*..., better take cover! (*Terry Pratchett reference for Discworld non-initiates)

Delisle

Very useful

Your Humble Host

Oh Jesus, I totally lost it at that derp portrait of Rose. This is an unexpected delight.

Charlotte Grubbs

The multitudinous minutiae of a millner's manifesto. Much appreciated, m'lady.

YEAH A SLOUCH HAT AND A HOT DOG CARRIER WOOO =D

Minzoku Bokumetsu

Waw. Gospel for drawing hats.

butchicky

This is so brilliant (and funny). Thank you so much!

Mordecai looks about ready to die... or kill all witnesses. XD

Meto

Awesome tutorial. Too bad I can't draw.

Henry Pitts

Not unnecessarily enormous. Hats are hard and this helps alot.

Sprinklehen

Totally unexpected and also totally helpful! Thank you!

Garrett Simpson

This might be one of favourite things ever, and I'm not even a draw-er-type-person.

Laura MacDonald

WHAT. This isn't the hat tutorial I never wanted. This is the hat tutorial I never knew I needed! This is VERY helpful to me! I always always struggled with hats, and so pretty much NONE of my characters have them. What a sad world they must live in, where hats just don't exist? Thank you so much for this unexpected, delightful, and informative little tutorial~! I really feel like it will help me in the future. :>

Beck Rachwitz

This is an excellent tutorial for an approach to doing hats. Thank you.

KenFletcher

Excellent timing for me! I'm in the process of drawing a number of Civil War era soldiers and the hats were giving me all sorts of troubles.

Matt

5.5" screen - perfectly readable. I definitely have a thing for hats. Don't have enough occasions to we're 'em. It's a cruel world.

Begaminoid

It's not especially mobile friendly in its current form. Sorry about that. I'll be making a mobile-specific version soon, though. For now, are you able to zoom in to read text or is it totally beyond hope?

Tracy Butler

This is both great and amusing, but it doesn't tell me which hat I should draw when I want the character to tip it and say "m'lady". Also that TF2 Heavy looks so happy with a properly-fitting hat, as gaben intended.

Tukaro

The text is a little tricky to read on mobile. I can get the basic gist, but none of that good lackadaisy banter :(
