Lackadaisy Distemper

The full size art can be viewed here.

Kind of a double size update again to wrap up this chapter.  I promise to stop drawing alligators all over everything...for a little while at least.

In Haitian Voodoo (and New Orleans Voodoo by extension), it's believed that a spirit may be invoked as a garde (or gad) for an individual through various ritualistic methods, sometimes involving branding or scarification.  Of course, it's generally a much more voluntary rite than Serafine seems to have made it here.

Love fury nails. Love cats. Love noir. Greetings from Colombia. Awesome colors and dialogue. The last frame is absolutly mindblowing. I am a creator also here in patreon writing a book. in spanish I wish i could write such neat dialogues.

very detailed, and the coloring gives this nostalgia or vintage feels. It makes the whole thing.. Perfect.

Amazing comic

Davi Leon Dias

This is...so, so beautiful. One of my favorite pages you've ever done.

blueeyedintrovert

Yeah you gotta wonder what kind of a struggle ensued there...! I was a bit less brutal in my head, from the last page I for some reason thought they were gonna tattoo him. XD Ouchies.

Thysania

Haha I know what you mean, when he's being fluffy and comical while talking to Serafine.

Does Nico look somehow Bobby-like or it's only me?

Jacek Tomaszewski

I agree, this is Nico's best appearance yet (do I sound like if Nico was an Iphone? XD) all facial expressions confirming his playful nature, yet I see him vigilant, trying to read Mordecai's reactions. However I think Nico just find Mordecai very amusing in a sliiiiightly patronizing kind of way, he is after all a taller very strong cat compared to the vicious angry cat sat on the back. What plays on Savoys favor in my opinion is that if Mordecai blows their brains out at this very moment he would have nowhere to go and would have the Marigold and the Lackadaisy gangs on his heels, too many enemies, so its not the time to make his move whatever he thinks its best to do, so they are pretty safe while Mordecai is busy doing this math :P

Bear in mind the following: Being forced into a religious rite (Being Jewish I assume that even if he is not very religious he resents impositions by other cults, most Jewish/Catholic friends I have are like that to a extent) against his will. Being probably overpowered and held down and scarred with a knife (hopefully above his nipple or you can add a new level of hell to his present pain) also when I see Mordecai I sense he takes extremely good care of his personal hygiene and appearance, on what he eats and how he dresses, now this imposed branding ruins symmetry and its a bloody reminder of his miscalculations stepping into that voodoo party. All of the above are my readings on the scene, so in a nutshell he might be feeling very angry, humiliated, yet for some reason he is holding all that back and trying to stay cool and concentrated on his job, whatever he's got to do now is very important. I'll give him the award of the most professional gangster ever! However Sera knows she is playing with fire, even if she feels in control for now I believe she hopes Mordecai gets some sort of signal from this Garde and understands the "gift" making him one of them in the end.

Prince Sitri

Oh my god, this is just so amazing. I don't think I will ever get used to how stunning each new panel. I always find myself blown away once again. I have to say that I definitely though they were going to gift him a prostitute but I was very very off. Recently, we have seen Mordecai so defenseless. I can't imagine that he just let them carve that into him but it appears that he couldn't get away either... Probably a situation he's not very used.

Kiki Glover

However, Mordecai has not lost his streak of cynicism: germs must die before anything else.

ATTENTION: THE FOLLOWING IS AN IMPORTANT PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT: I love Serafine. I love Serafine and I am so happy with this entire preceding scene. Love. Violent amounts of love.

Sara L

Oh snap! She DID do it! uhhhhhggh (what a scene to imagine!)

Thysania

I don't think I've ever had my jaw drop that fast. WOW. This is awesome!

Maklarr4000

I adore that center image, where you've darkened the foreground characters and given Mordecai (and his new spirit guide) the spotlight. The texture over everything is exquisite too - like the noise on an old film. I'm wondering if in a future livestream you can demonstrate how you pull off effects like that?

Katie Winchester

A bullseye over his heart, with an X to mark the spot.... A target? Or a shield?

Stacey Chronister

Damn, she went exactly as far as we all feared she'd go. I guess it comes with the territory when you've been murdering folks for cash as long as she and her brother have. I really like the dedication she has towards sending a message to Mordecai. She's thorough, remorseless, and doesn't hold back. As bad as he is with understanding social cues, I think Mordecai caught her intent just fine. Serafine knows her targets well, it seems.

Recremen

Yet another AMAZING piece of art where Tracy once more surpasses her skills to a new level, there seems to be no limit to what she can deliver! Impressive colors, and the whole atmosphere is just exquisite. On a side note I do believe Mordecai got himself overpowered and scarred against his will in that room, that napkin showing the extend of the injury, that's got to hurt a lot. Yet he is concentrated on his job? despite of the anger he shows and the fact Serafine is making fun of it... Well I hope Mordecai doenst forgive this and whatever reasons he's got to take this are shown later on and somehow he can square this business properly.

Prince Sitri

Some Cajun type voodoo spirit? How Rocky gonna get out of this one?

Sodajuice

Your colors are always so appropriate to the scene.

Angela Cross

Mordecai has always been a scary character. But that last panel... *shudder* I think he's moved on to a whole new level of terror.
