Story Idea: Death

Death has a points system. And for Grim Reapers it’s a game. The more points they get, the closer they are to retirement. Their points are based on the life they lead when they were alive. If you don’t collect points you begin to decay.

For one young woman she’s just discovering this weird new afterlife for herself. Recently dead as well as being a grim reaper’s winning point, she is now imbued with the grim reaper mantel as well as the “pomegranate seed” that houses the powers the the grim reapers before her who used it.

Because death and taxes isn’t the only thing she can expect. Along with the points game there are “side quests” she can take to ensure a faster winning game. These quests include hunting demons, rogue souls, ghosts, and other dangerous cryptids and specters haunting this world. Taken under the wing of a small team of grim reapers with shockingly high goals, she will learn ho to harness her new powers as well as her new job.

But there is more than monsters to hunt and souls to reap. There’s also grim snipers, grim reapers who have figured out a loophole in the system where they can kill other grim reapers and take their points. Not to mention if she doesn’t reap any souls for long periods of time, she risks decaying and her soul and pomegranate seed fusing to create a new cryptid which will haunt and terrorize the living.

All these things are a lot and can pile up. Not to mention she had to become a whole new person with a day job to make ends meet. But luckily, her new teammates are somewhat understanding to her plight. But they are also harboring a secret about a former team member as well as the power that her pomegranate seed holds. And when she meets a human who not only can see her, but has a way of stopping death, things change yet again and she finds she has to protect them.
