Comitatenses in Combat
The comitatenses were one of the types of soldiers of the field armies of the late Roman Empire. They were the soldiers that replaced the legionaries. The comitatenses were the heavy infantry and general's reserve.

Donkey Mill
According to sources such as Polybius and other authors, the standard ration was wheat (frumentum), usually about three Roman pounds per day (approximately 1 kg). This grain was not distributed ready for consumption; instead, the soldiers themselves had to grind and cook it, typically as porridge (puls), flatbreads, or rudimentary bread.
