Deertaur Boyfriend: Kaio #2 (special preview)

“Your father will probably run late,” Kaio murmurs.

“I hope not.” I sit down, this time far enough away from Kaio’s roaming hands. I eat a bit more as the air begins to chill around us. The wind then picks up and, around us, it starts to rain. Kaio bows his head as rain starts to splash down upon him. He shakes his head and then, in a moment, the rain around us stops to fall, as if were are trapped in a bubble.

I reach out, my hand catching slow falling droplets. As I pull my hand back in, the water rises up and floats away from me.

“Amazed?” Kaio chuckles.

I frown at him. “That’s a word.” I sit down again. “But this means you will not receive word from my father on what is to happen.”

“I am not worried,” he laughs. “I know what is true in my heart.”

That evening when the rain stops, my father does return home. He looks exhausted when he does, and he has to sit down as soon as he comes inside. He says there was a great argument, and that his nerves are shot because of it.

“What did they say about Kaio?” I ask. “Did they defend themselves against his story? Or do you believe there is truth to what he says?”

My father sighs. “I believe there is a duality to everything around us, Danae. It has been so long since Kaio was imprisoned that everything is just a story, all legend. There is no way to discern the truth as it stands now, and I feel the way he wants justice will never come to be.” he shakes his head. “They did not even know that he existed.”

I furrow my brow at this. “They didn’t?”

“No,” he huffs. “They said they thought he was just a children’s story like we did. Chief Aetz even suggested Kaio was a con.”

I shake my head. “But they brought him food.”
