Sharing What I Can
Added 2024-11-15 18:48:26 +0000 UTCHello all! Just a quick public update to say that, in the spirit of wanting to offer something nice to the world at large, I've made the last two regular Patreon updates free for anyone who wants to read them.

Last week, I posted a basket full of flower photographs, because flowers are nice, I like looking at them, and I thought you might, too. They're attached to that post as downloadable full-res files in case you want to use them for who-knows-what. Go lose yourself in the texture of a dahlia's petals or marvel at the hyper-saturated colour of a little chocolatey-red four-petaller.
There's also a PRACTICAL DEFENCE writing update as well as some recommendations for high-quality things that have, historically, succeeded in distracting me.

This week, I shared some thoughts on broad-strokes editing a story. I included some personal guidelines I've been using (e.g. the title of the post, "no new characters!"), as well as some current feelings about NaNoWriMo.
There are more recommendations for distracting things, a link to an article about "Election Grief" that I found helpful, and — most importantly — I ranked every season of the TV show TASKMASTER from great to brilliant.
If you're like me and are starving to be engaged by something that isn't news media, hot takes, or current affairs, I hope this helps.

I go for walks at night around our neighbourhood, and I've noticed that lots of people have put up their Christmas lights and trees, and it seems much, much earlier than usual. Maybe part of this is artificial trees. You don't need to wait for the lot to open, and you don't need to worry about it dying between now and December. And I understand this is different in America, where you have Thanksgiving as a bulwark between Halloween and Christmas. But, also, I can't help but think that people are eager for something to look forward to. I get it.
Around here, look forward to some inked pages coming up, if not in next week's update, then the one after. I'm still chipping away at the writing, because as soon as this week's post went live yesterday morning, I had an idea about a potentially-better way to approach the climactic sequences. No better way to come up with new ideas than to say, "I've decided exactly what to do, and I'm locking it in!" I'm not going to act surprised or disappointed, because that's exactly how it always goes, and I'm happy that at least this one little corner of life is operating as expected.
Until next week,
I remain,
a little chocolatey-red four-petaller,
