Appetite for Discussion (PDAP, Chapter Four, Pages 33-36)

Last week, I made good on a promise about Captain Lear from Chapter One, Nikos took a pointed stand against Vignelli, Edward (Alexandra's dad) made a desperate choice to escape the flames at the gate, and we met an ominous great big green man.

This week, Alexandra finally gets the opportunity to apologize to her mother that she's wanted since Chapter Three… almost.

I really like the "I'm sorry" spread in this instalment. I desperately hope it reads as intended.

Egg on my face: despite whatever I said in last week's post, I see that I've used "mum" here instead of "mom" or "mother." Welp. What can I say except to make a glowing pink post-it note on the top of my revision stack saying "STANDARDIZE USE OF MOM/MUM/MOTHER."

I was waffling between whether or not I should use these sorts of glowy effects (below, first "on," then "off"). I like the intensity and believability that they bring to the artwork, but on the other hand, to me they also feel "Photoshoppy."

I asked some trusted friends, though, and the response was so unanimously in favour of keeping the effects "on" that I feel dumb for even considering it.

I'm going through and making sure I have the same effect applied to the "fireflies," also. (Below: "on," and "off," respectively.)

You may also notice that the green mist has more colour variation in upcoming posts than it did for the first several posts I made here for Chapter Four. In that case, I had always meant for the colour variation to be present, except I posted the pages here before I added it in. Whoops.

Between the missing green-mist-colour-variation and the "mum" issue, I hope this is all sort of the fun part of seeing the work during the early stages.

Right now I am watching streams for the "Early Access" version of HADES 2, a video game I am very much looking forward to. (I do not have anything on which to actually play this.) I am asking myself, "do I really want to see this now? Shouldn't I be waiting for the final product? Don't I want to be surprised?" In response, I tell myself, "it's not about the surprise, it's about seeing how it all comes together. If you want surprise, the surprise will be seeing the tiny differences," because I am looking forward to it that much.

This is all to say, I can only dare dream that following along with the project in these posts is as much fun for you as it is for me to watch HADES 2 videos. It's at least as fun for me to make these pages.

Next week: more pages! Where will Sir Edward land? What's the Pirate Captain holding in his hand?

Until then,
I remain,
egg on my face,

TC
