Chapter Four Inking: a Good Week!

It's "Oops All Bangers" this week.

Weekly tangent: Adam Buxton interviewed Kirsty Young, who is a news anchor and hosted Desert Island Discs for years and years. In that interview Adam asks Kirsty if she ever thought she could be friends with anyone she interviewed. Kirsty suggests she might have been friends with architect Zaha Hadid, "even though I don't know much about architecture."

Now, I can see how that's just One of Those Things People Say, but, for myself, I make comics and I very rarely want to talk about comics. Kirsty Young shouldn't have worried. I'm sure she and Hadid could have found a billion things on which to connect. If all Zaha Hadid wanted to talk about was architecture, she probably wouldn't have been a very good architect.

Lots of good stuff happening on the pages this week.

^ I like this panel. It's a good "oof" face.

^ Alexandra is starting to look a little more like the person she might become.

^ I'm very pleased with these clawing hands. Getting photo ref was trifficult.

^ Some of these panels were drawn on separate sheets and will be comped together. In this sequence, I struggled to show that the Flagbearer uses both himself and the treasure chest to keep the wounded Captain Lear from being hit by gunfire from the walls. It is a difficult thing to convey. I decided to go with down-shots like this, which illustrate the positioning better. The lighting will help, too — shadows will help tell the story of "the captain has been shielded from the gunfire." I hope it works.
