“Could it be… pirates?”

… asks DD’s mom, in the top-right panel. She will find out in due course.

This week was weird! I did a bunch of page prep (“pencilling”) on Monday, then a bunch of “non-work work” during midweek, including a podcast recording, a presentation to university illustration students, and prep for that presentation. Oh and there were taxes to do and furniture to move and grass to till.

BUBBLE author Jordan Morris and myself recorded a brief interview for the READING GLASSES podcast, talking about the BUBBLE graphic novel and books and such. In general, Brea and Mallory put together a great podcast, and (at least based on my experience) are unique in enjoying “real” books as well as graphic novels.

School visits are sometimes stressful, because I always feel like there’s so much I want to cover and so little time, and then I later worry that I come off as manic. I also worry about being too didactic, but I feel very strongly that if you are compelled to follow my path, I want to leave the brightest lanterns along the way. Anyway, I re-encountered a lot of ideas I want to share and which I will hopefully turn into blog posts in the future.

Above, please enjoy the little note I wrote to myself, just cut off in the bottom left corner, to fix DD’s nose digitally later.

My plan right now is to leave them in, and colour the line art so it looks nice. We’ll see how it turns out. If it’s bad, it won’t be too hard to remove.

For the blush on the cheeks and nose, are those pencil that you keep with the final inks?
