We all know that you can't dialogue with a drunk guy, but in this case... i think it was for the better that Peter was completely drunk.
And while Chris couldn't do much to stop his father from having Connie do all those things, what he could do was make it so that Connie would obey everything his father said, at least at that moment.
Lucky for them, Peter wasn't gonna last longer than that... if he couldn't keep it like that while sober, imagine him being wasted...
