Goblin Boyfriend Stolik (special preview)

“I can’t fix this one.” I point to the monitor which I think is starting to smoke. “But I can help fix you.”

I pat his back, unsure why. “They aren’t hard to learn. Most are intuitive these days. And you don’t have to have a public wifi. Require only people with library cards to be able to access it or only make it available in the computer hall.”

Stoilk is silent and his expression is stony and distant.

He glares at me.

“Bad joke,” I grumble. “But I’ll help you get to know the new system as good as you knew the old one.”

Stoilk grumbles and grunts under his breath. “Fine.”

“Good. Because there was no other way around it except through it. I’ll call a friend of mine, he’ll help get your internet out of the stone ages and set the library up with wireless. After that I’ll come get your new computer set up.” I leave Stoilk behind as I go call.

Wifi set up would be in a couple of days, so until then I had time to get the new library system running and help Stoilk get used to it. To be honest, I’m not looking forward to it at all. I don’t much care for Stoilk, or really anyone who can’t accept that technology is moving forward. The stone age is in the past for a reason.

Since I’m now working behind Stoilk’s desk, he’s hovering around me more than usual. In fact, he usually sitting at the desk while I’m working on getting the system running. I’m having to install programs from a jump drive or disk, rather than just accessing the internet for them. It’s taking much longer, especially since I have to download the programs from home or my office first.

I tap his arm once I have everything set up and ready. “Do you have a moment?”

“Many,” Stoilk sighs and adjusts his glasses. “But none I wish to waste on you.”

“Understandable. But come here.” I use my foot to yank over his desk chair closer to the computer. I stand behind Stoilk and move the mouse around. “Ok, so, pretty basic. You’re used to your desktop so I tried to set it up from memory like you had the old one. Now, this is the new library system that-”

Stoilk isn’t watching the screen but rather my hand on the mouse. “That’s not attached to anything.”

Tech support with a Luddite? Sounds interesting.
