Hello and Happy Weekend!
I wanted to give an update as well as a behind the scenes goodie. I've just completed page 6 of the first chapter, so here is a panel from it as well as the process.
My first step in drawing out a panel is sketching. My rough sketch's job is to only capture general shapes and perspective. Overall, it looks like trash but gets the idea across. lol
The second step is the line art. This is the most time-consuming step in the Oasi's Fallen novel. I've come to realize that line art is the most important detail in drawing comics. So making sure my line art is as accurate and eye pleasing as possible is crucial. No amount of pretty colors and effects will make up for a subject that is incorrectly drawn. Detailed lines also cancels the need for extra shading, colors, and textures - which saves a lot of time in the long run. This is why I've been able to complete Oasi's Fallen panels faster than Tales From Agiros panels.
The 3rd step is flatting. This is where I just put down basic colors for the panel. It also allows me to individually add textures and paints to the different colored areas of the panel without spending a stupid amount of time painting. I try to pick flats that match the base tone of everything. Since this panel takes place on a red planet just after sundown, I picked muted colors with a red base.
The last step is painting and textures. As mentioned above, this step is when I select my flatted areas and add textures and lighting. This step usually goes pretty quickly thanks to all the wonderful brushes in Photoshop.
Hope you enjoy! I'll be able to start releasing whole pages on my Patreon once I complete Chapter 2.
Until next time!
