Feedback on hints
Added 2019-11-07 20:04:23 +0000 UTCHey guys!
What are your thoughts on giving hints in certain choices?
I've gone back and forth between leaving it as is (no hints, but a walk through available) and offering more info on what the choices mean in the game itself.
Time to put it up for a vote!

Upon playing the reworked parts of the new release, I pretty quickly notice that the choice to enable hints is *after* choosing to be a bitch to Jenn or not. I think that one would definitely count as having consequences, might want to move the hints up a little.

2019-12-07 01:12:47 +0000 UTCThinking about it I guess it's not really *major* decisions so much as anything that doesn't have an obvious effect immediately but will later. Here I'm thinking of Leah asking about bigger boobs which the walkthrough suggests will affect how big she'll get later on. Trying out both of those with rollback would make you think it isn't a consequential choice.

2019-11-09 01:31:18 +0000 UTCI know what you mean! I've definitely played a few games that forget their premise and kind of just... end. My approach is that it's still in the phase of meeting the girls and learning which ones you like. The focus I have for the next update is having more choices on how you treat and interact with the girls, with the individual (and paired up/harem) paths and endings toward the end of the game. As is, you can skip a lot of the individual scenes if there's a girl that doesn't interest you, but there will soon be the option to choose a "just friends" option to narrow down the storylines. Thanks for the input!

I know the game has just gotten started but be caruful to not show elements you won't devolop later. It can be very frustrating. Do you have any plans for multiple routes?

2019-11-08 10:39:15 +0000 UTCThanks for the votes! I agree with Bill where most decisions shouldn't need hints, but major decisions could use them. The results of the poll were pretty close. I believe that will be the plan going forward, that I'll try to throw in some clarification on major (and hidden) decisions, but leave the majority of it up to the player. And there will always be the walk through to fall back on.

2019-11-08 08:35:42 +0000 UTCChoices where the outcome is immediately apparent and you can rollback/reload don't need hints, but if a choice is going to have serious consequences later on I'd rather know about it.

2019-11-08 02:24:08 +0000 UTCApparently I'm in the minority, but honestly visual novels are simple things, and the autosave feature means that any mistake is instantly erased. It seems to me, that if you signal too strongly, then it really takes away the 'choice'. I think play through experimentation is half the fun of it. Especially when 3/4 choices are needed to reach a particular outcome. Hints make the game more 2 dimensional and reduce the 'game' portion of this to nil. Just my .02 cents.

2019-11-07 20:46:30 +0000 UTCPersonally I like being explicit about whether the choice is well received or not. Reading a walkthrough takes me out of the experience.
