Proof of Life #170: Did you guys miss dream segments?

My issues with it stem more from it debasing our hero. Dreams in any kind of narrative are not the inane randomness they tend to be in reality. We're seeing Leto's worries and suspicions play out in front of him, yet outside of the dream he says nothing and makes no indication of these worries outside of the occasional chosen response or emote. In general dreams muddy stories and are a cheap method of providing narrative dissonance.

Unfortunately, 1st release is probably going to be closer to the 12th. I'm still trying to navigate this illness of mine, as it isn't 100% healed yet, and some mornings I really don't feel well enough to work. Also, the later, the more content I can put in the Update^^

To be honest, I'd be lying if I said I didn't use dream sequences as a way to have early smut and to make people look forward to the moment where this "might turn into reality". However, I try to insert it within the context of the immediate story, so it doesn't feel out of place and makes it understandable why the MC might have such a dream to begin with. Hopefully, it will work out this time.

I think that most developers use dreams wrong. They use them as a lazy way to pack some smut into the early part of their story when things might seem boring. Using dream sequences in that way takes away from the impact and suspense that the game is building. Like yeah, it might be a cool scene, but the fact that it isn't "real" in the game work take all the emotion out of it. A much better use of dreams is to hint "something isn't right here" which adds to the suspense and expectation instead of detracting from it. From what I remember of your other games though, you probably already understand this. You actually use dreams sequences the right way.

Sometimes the dreams could take away from the impacts of the real world events in the story. If you go that dream H scene route.

I enjoy the dream sequences, they do say that some dreams are your subconscious trying to tell you something. Are the dream events just to do with Rose or will the other girls be featuring?

I totally agree with this. I loved the dream sequence Celis had in HC2.

Never been a fan of dream segments, but work is work. Keep it up.

Super stoked for some more dream sequences. I understand they aren't for everyone, but they help show some uber corruption earlier in the story than otherwise possible. So I'm always in favor, haha. XD

seriously can't wait for update 5 I'm hoping for the 8th of April to come out that just me be optimistic. dream scene well i like it hope different girl this time not just only Rose (hoping for Cyanna to be honest) but if it's Rose again next time baby.

I wouldn't actively go out of my way to ask for these segments myself but they can be a nice addition to the game, especially in the early stages where the girl who appears in the dream is not at that stage yet where she's actively doing anything lewd, like the dream about Rose in the demo, even though that didn't exacly feel like a dream segment to me, it felt more like a bone that you just threw me after saying "Go buck wild cause that's all you're gonna get with her for the next 6 months" xd

I like a good early dream segment in these sorts of games just because it lets you get some pent up feelings out earlier on so you don't have to wait so long for something to happen. Especially build-up games where the good stuff doesn't start until late game with some of the characters. This game has done a good bit of avoiding that with a STRONG supporting cast though. Also, I ABSOLUTELY love the freeroam stories around town. Those are brilliant.

Harsh, but I can understand. Since they are not grounded in reality, they can appear superficial and pointless to some. I like making them though, it helps let my imagination run a bit wilder than usual. Don't worry though, the section is mostly about visuals, not text, so it'll won't drag on for long ; )

There are many things I miss in games. Dream segments are not and will never be one of the things I miss.
