Proof of Life #168: More focus on the story
Added 2023-03-13 22:52:23 +0000 UTCHello guys and gals, hope you're having a nice morning/afternoon/evening! As you might have guessed already, I'm currently working on the next update, while still trying to figure out a detail or two on how I'll do it.
First week of development has gone at a relatively slow pace, but it's always like this after I just finished releasing an update. I take some time for myself, to figure out how I want the next update to go, and to do extra irl stuff I'd put on hold so far (to hell with taxes^^).
Now, I'm done with most of the new maps, and I've started to develop the rest of the story. Talking about story, Update 5 will have more focus on it than Update 4 did. Update 4 was mainly sex-focused, as I know a lot of people enjoy those. However, I think fleshing out the story is also very important, as it makes the world feel more alive and immersive, and immersion helps with giving more weight and impact to the scenes and the corruption itself. Also, it diversifies my work, which is nice too^^
In store: more insight into the origins of the Peacekeepers, more background info on the island of Nos'Ra, a few new human NPCs with peculiar appearances (you'll understand when you play it), some more Cyanna and Rose, and silhouette sex!
Oh, and Rose's new outfit in the character screen is done. Hopefully, Cyanna's will also be finished before I release the update : )

I also feel like the story is VERY fleshed out already. Sure now you gotta keep the niveau, but even focssing more on the story is just too much imo.

2023-03-19 16:03:47 +0000 UTCHit enter without finishing. It is possible to flesh out a story without drowning players in it like HC2. Doesn't have to be a choice bwtween story or H content, but the H content should be priority 1. So far this one isn't as bad in terms of long winded story, but still, there has been a lot of skippable dialogue.

2023-03-15 19:27:06 +0000 UTCI just want to point out that I meant more story in this update as opposed to the previous one, not as a whole. I already have most of the major plot points planned out, and they will directly impact the corruption and the endings, so I have to have them in-game. Besides, a dev, I personally need to have some kind of fleshed out story in-game, or I would honestly get bored of simply writing scene after scene with a barely existant plotline. It's a difficult balance to keep of what people want to see vs what I want to develop, which is why I have H-focused updates like the 4th one, and more story-oriented ones : )

Dream sequences were an easy way to add more H content from the get-go without it influencing the storyline, but now that I can add said content freely into the game, they're not as useful. I'm not excluding it though, they could still have their place somewhere.

IMO there is more then enough story already and more to read without any action involving the female main characters (not extra charaters - we had enough of them already) would be too much for me and overstep my threshold. In my humble opinion you would fall back to the same amount of story as in HC2 which was definitely too much. So I can only hope that you stick to the current balance of story and h action. If any shift the favor more in the direction of the h scenes.

I don't want to spark any comparison between the antagonists and the MC as to how they perform in bed, because it'll be harder to make the happy ending "happy" if it is established the MC will never be equal to the antagonists in terms of sexual prowess, so I'd rather keep it vague.
