Proof of Life #166: Too many custom H sprites?
Added 2023-02-20 23:08:40 +0000 UTCHeya you wild people, hope your morning/afternoon/evening's going good! Mine's going... as usual, I guess. One Monday PoL, then some more work on the game. You might have seen the last PoL post titled "More custom H sprites", and today I'm publishing its long-awaited sequel: "Too many custom H sprites?"
Basically, I've done quite a lot of progress during the past week, finishing the current update's main story segment and even adding another smaller segment afterwards. I'm currently developing Rose's second scene.
The issue? Most of my progress as it stands could almost be called "half-progress", because since I've decided to rely on more custom sprites, I can't really test what I've developed until I receive them (otherwise, I'd just end up having to test everything twice to make sure the sprites also work as intended). Currently, I have received only around 20% of all the custom sprites I'm hoping to have in the next update, which means a good part of it is left entirely untested and with lots of placeholders, Four different artists are working on it, and they should all be coming in batches in the next few days so , with ~2 weeks left until release, it will hopefully all turn out fine.
Besides the H scenes, I've also tried to add some more scenes that cements the relationship between Leto, Cyanna, and Rose in order to give some more weight to their love triangle as well as the Leto/Rose relationship (since the next main quest update will have more focus on Cyanna).
That's it for this PoL. I hope it won't need a third sequel ; )

2023-02-22 04:43:50 +0000 UTCFor me personally it wasn't the number of scenes that did it, but the writing of certain scenes in particular, especially the ones at the start (first BJ, etc.). So don't stress yourself about custom sprites too much

The majority are for H scene, but the rest is meant to add more enticing visuals for certain story scenes, instead for just decribing it and expect people to imagine it. It's true that more artists make me more dependent on them, but since I want to save up money to further improve the HC series' visuals as a whole, I'll have to hire more artists anyway, so I can't really help it.

2023-02-21 06:34:49 +0000 UTCGood work, optimise your pipeline and don't bite more than you can chew with the custom animations. Since the delivery is up to the artists and not up to you, you could be held back by their progress. I liked that HC2 did not have too many custom animations. It was very story focused and the sex was a byproduct of the premise and setup. Now it seems that the actual sex takes first priority which is fine but story should be first every step of the way. You're a great and a creative writer and I hope you don't lose your vision by constantly trying to one-up yourself, sometimes a great story is all you need.
