Proof of Life #144: A Whole Lot of Polishing and Customizing Done

Heya guys, girls, and others, nice to see you again for what is going to be yet another Monday PoL post, writing about the results of my labor of the past week to prove it to you that your money isn't wasted on a lazy slob who lives off your support while doing the bare mimimum ; )

So, this past week has been mostly dedicated to adding the last game features as well as polishing and customizing everything that needs it. I really want to do my best so HC3 feels less and less like "just another RPGMaker game".

For that, one good example is the new artwork of the city of Luminia I just received above, whose main purpose is to "decorate" the longer narration parts and make them feel less boring.

So, since last Monday, I:

1) Customized the main menu screen

2) Reworked the title screen (I didn't like the work I'd done on it before, so I went and changed a lot of things)

3) Reworked the "Quest Board" in the MC's house and added every side and main quest, their trigger condition(s) and trigger location when needed. I also went and added a list of all available the Triple Trident opponents currently in-game, their location, during what timeframe they appear and under what conditions, as well as whether you've already beat them or not (so you can come back after a few updates and not feel completely lost).

4) Added and tested all the scenes to the Reminiscence Room and created a whole new map for the extra scenes with assets I'd mostly never used before + a new soundtrack specific to it.

5) Reworked the base tutorial(s) to add 4 nice-looking slides instead of plain text on a dim background. Those have been designed by a professional graphic designer, so they look quite good.

6) Also reworked the Triple Trident tutorial as well as the tutorial for the glowing orbs so they include images.

7) Completed the Game Manual found in the MC's room so it offers the possibility to rewatch every tutorial on Basic settings and controls, POV&Choices, MC's room features, etc...

8) Added new special NPCs for the map dedicated to 30$+ players (but that everyone can visit) with their very own lore loosely based on Japanese shrine priestesses (mikos). I might actually have done that before last week, I can't remember.

9) Implemented character status menu in-game, accessible from the main menu once MC reaches adulthood. The full-body sprites used there are currently being done by the author, so they might just be placeholders at release, depending on the time it takes. Placeholders are already the characters' full-body sprites, but the colors are really meh because they were used for reference purpose at first and weren't polished.

What remains to be done:

Mostly adding new extra content to make the demo feel as complete and satisfying as possible, really.

1) Wait for the last assets for the menu + title screen (I have placeholders at the moments, and I just need to replace them with original assets as soon as I receive them).

2) Add freeroam events here and there. Ideally, I'd like to have at least 3-4 for this update.

3) Add the beginning of one more mini-story around the city (2 are already in-game for now)

4) Implement 1-2 new mini-scenes for the time skip between the MC's childhood and adulthood. I have already sent out commissions for teenage Cyanna and teenage Rose, then I'll need teenage Leto and Lily.

5) Retest the game as a whole to make sure there are no game-breaking bugs 

6) Write the walkthrough as I replay the game

7) A bunch of misc. other stuff that shouldn't take too long.

Okay, this PoL has been a lot more robotic and organized than usual, but I'm really in "bucket list mode" currently, trying to finish everything before the release, so I'm recreating what's in my head as I write this post.

Anyway, that should be it for this week! We're getting closer and closer to the release, but I certainly won't rush it. A few more steps, and we'll have ourselves a complete demo : )

Well, HC2 already had different antagonists. Besides Edwyr and Zeno, there were also the professor, the medicine man, and the blacksmith. HC3 will follow the same pattern, meaning mainly one man per one woman. Since the game has 2 main and 2 side characters, that means 2 main and two side antagonists.

just wanted to ask will HC3 will have different antagonist for different females like the four main girls will have different ntr partners and cuck mc or it will be like HC2 where major we have edwar and his father doing the cucking.

Actually I almost hope it takes longer (= more updates). The setting of the whole game is really good and I would love to see a looooong and detailed and realistic corruption process. ^^

I have played it, yes. and I remember that part. The difference between HC3 and Scars of Summer is that Scar of Summers was relatively short with different routes, meaning that if the player chose to avoid the NTR, they wouldn't have to wait all that long to get to the good ending. If I were to implement "non-NTR" options, players would go for hours without content, and the story in itself would make little sense as it is built around the progressive corruption. Also, it is one of my principles not to offer non-NTR options for any of the main girls for various reasons. Still, there is a short storyline with one sub-heroine involving the card game Triple Trident, where you can either get NTR'd by losing against the last opponent, or win and avoid it.

Hi N_taii idk if you ever played the NTR game Scars of Summer but there is a Shota character named Nobuo that plays a card game with you were you simply choose one of 3 cards. You lose by choosing the wrong card which is easy to guess. Nobuo takes your girl into his tent where the NtR happens. We'll we see minigames e.g cards or gambit with our girls on the line any point in the story.

Hmmm, I'm not sure something like that could be conveyed through the mini-stories, because they won't have this level of details. They will most likely be a series of freeroam events, sexual or non-sexual in nature, tied together by their very own mini-storyline within the game. There will be a minimal amount of interactions for them, a few lines of dialogue at most, so doing something like you're describing wouldn't work. Unless you meant with the side characters (Lily and Haylen)? In which case, I'll see. I can't promise anything though, as I already have their initial corruption planned out in my mind : )

I would use it more, but most of the time my workload isn't split into defined objectives, it's more like "keep doing the story" or "make some maps". This past week has been quite peculiar, and it will remain so until the release of the demo most likely^^

Wow, you're asking a difficult question there^^ I suppose at least 1 year and a half, no less than HC2. Maybe more, depending on the complexity and length of the endings.

It sounds like you are getting a huge amount of work done. How long do you expect the full project to take?

Sorry for not writing this right away, but I also wanted to ask a question, or rather make a suggestion. I know that Hanataka's NTRPG game was your inspiration for the HC series, and I wanted to ask if it's possible to add an element of surprise to the game. In the first NTRPG, when we just started playing in the evenings, we had to go to a bar and hang out with our old friend for 7 days, where we see how he seduces a green-haired girl and the same night at his house promising to show us a surprise. Upon arrival, we understand that in the bed of our friend it’s not the same girl at all, but the main character. This moment is imprinted in my memory as the best NTR transition I have ever seen, because I did not expect this event in any way. I'm not saying you should do the same with your main characters, but it might be possible to do the same with side stories. As always, I apologize for my English, I hope the translator was able to convey my thoughts ;_;
