Proof of Life #143: Game Banner is Here

Heya everyone, how are you doing ? Today is time for another promised Monday PoL post, one where I have quite a few things to say. I'll try to make it quick though : )

First of all, what do you think of the game banner? I know it isn't all that original compared to the previous two, especially compared to HC2, but instead of going for something different, I really wanted it convey key informations while keeping it eye-catching. With it, you can see the four main characters of HC3, and their expression makes it obvious that the tone of the game won't be good-natured romance. The background shows two of the Peacekeepers (the island's guardian towers), which will have a predominant role throughout most of the story (thus the subtitle), and the night sky gives off a rather unsettling impression, which is better suited than a bright sky. Keep in mind that this is the base game banner, and will be subject to change depending on the medium it's used with. For example, it will be altered to fit RPGMaker's screen size, which is significantly smaller

As for development, the story is now done with, and has been tested step by step. All that's needed is one last playtest of the whole game to see if there aren't any game-breaking bugs, but I won't do that until I'm finished with every little task I have left. The demo concludes with the princess' first corruption scene, which is meant to be relatively tame to set up for what's to come. I'm really happy with her NTR trigger, that makes the corruption process relatively believable, and leaves me with a lot of opportunities for more escalating scenes. After all, 90% of the game's lore has been set up partly to make this particular trigger possible.

Right now, I'm in the polishing phase, and I'm ticking things off a bucket list as I work. Some are easier, like setting up the glowing orbs, adding doodads, details, etc..., while others make me glad I didn't give a particular release date. I'm currently trying to customize the menu a bit more than the base RPGMaker's engine allows. For that, I am forced to use plugins, basically community-made code bits allowing to expand on the engine's functionalities. The issue is that the ones I'm using at the moment to customize the menu screen come with barely any documentation, so I'm reduced to play one of the demo containing the same plugin to see what they've done with it and how, so I can apply it to HC3. It's a bit akin to dismantling a machine to see how it works and be able to build it back later, and I suck at things like that^^ I've been fumbling with the menu all morning without making much progress, but I'm slowly getting the hang of it.

So, a wall of text to tell you that I have and still am making progress, but the release date is still uncertain because of the factors I have mentioned above, and that rushing things that will then stay in-game forever would definitely be a terrible move. I'd rather have something that works in the demo, rather than coming back to it later to fix it and taking a ton more time doing it. Still, mid-September to second half of September for the release sounds totally doable.

That's it for this PoL. Thank you for sticking around, and I hope you're as excited for the release as I am ; )

Thank you for reading, and have a wonderful week!

Proof of Life #143: Game Banner is Here

Comments

I want to, and quite honestly that's the initial plan, but we'll have to see. Those illustrations are usually the most expensive to commission, and it will all depend on my future budget.

Loving the game banner and can't wait to play the update! I know we'll be getting a PoL post in probably ~15 hours but figure I'd ask here anyway, as it's to do with the game banner. Will we be getting additional banners with updated clothes as the story progresses? I may have asked before but can't remember, but this is something I'd love to see

cordegen

Thanks, I'll check them out

Snowman9712

Can I expect a response in PM?

Yup, I get it ; ) It's more difficult for the Princess though, as she isn't supposed to be seen in public and has a load of reponsibilities. But I found a way in the story to make her more likely to hang out with the rest (when the story permits it). Since she'll get corrupted along Cyanna, those two are more likely to have interactions with each other in the future.

N_taii

I don't mind publicly promoting games if they are good : ) Recently, two games I really liked are "Hero Party Must Fall" from Nitrolith, of which I am a Patron, and I've seen many Patrons here that are also his Patrons, although his game is more of a Netori game than a Netorare one. I also like Foster Home for Fantasy Girls by Txxus. I'm a sucker for pixel art coupled with corruption elements^^

N_taii

Yes, despite all the complaints that RPGMaker sex games often receive, I think the RPGMaker game engine is perfect for freeroam events and the likes because it offers the possibility to create a semi-open world pretty easily. The player can easily walk around and stumble opon extra event or extra interactions between the characters. Yes, I've already played games from Mijishi and Dot Kobo. Mijishi are more Netorase than Netorare, and Dot Kobo are kind of a hit and miss for me. For example, I really liked their "Kanae" game.

I apologize for possible mistakes, as I use a translator. Somehow I thought so. The works of this creator are the reference classics of point erotica. It was these works that made me fall in love with this art form. I really like your approach to creating NTR stories. Unlike Hanataka, your approach to working with slow corruption seems to me more winning and correct. I also like it when works are built in such a way that they encourage "exploration" from the player. For example, you can stumble upon some random event between NPCs or even watch the development of some kind of "Behind the Scenes" story. Almost everything that I like is present in your work. Thank you for your hard work. By the way, are you familiar(I am not sure about the correct translation of this word in this sentence, but I think that you will understand what I mean.) with the work of such creators as Mijiishi and Dot Kobo?

The NTRPG series, by a creator namer Hanataka. I was inspired by his game, or the lack thereof, since he's introduced 3 new games, among which 1 demo, and gave up on all of them. So I decided to pick up the slack and do it myself.

N_taii

I always appreciate recommendations haha. You can also send me a dm if you don't want to publicly promote other games on here

Snowman9712

What works inspired you to create the HC series?

25th

I re-read a few things i wrote and i think i put them kind of wrong. Basically what i want is that it still feels like the characters occupy the same game. No need with all the other shit it wrote. It would be enough if they share some screentime from time to time. Like in the prologue or when Lily and Cyanna woke up the MC. Because they are a friend group with histoy. But i have total trust in you, that you manage to do just that!

Force progress would definitely rub a lot of people the wrong way, and it's not something I wish to add in the game. I think it's important to give players some sort of freedom, especially in a game that's already pretty streamlined like mine, so it comes with a few sacrifices unfrotunately, like having storyline sspearate from each other.

N_taii

That's a feeling I can completely understand. There's a few games for which I hope I had a time machine because I don't have the patience to wait for their updates^^

N_taii

I wish I could just skip a few months and play multiple updates at once haha. Can't wait for this game to be finished

Snowman9712

Nah, i totally understand your standpoint. Especially the way you develop your game through monthly updates. The only way that could be achieveable would be to force progress the sidequests if the player hasn't played them. But that would also break the immersion.

Once again, I totally understand, but due to the side quests being entirely optional and available for players to do at their own pace (provided they advance the main quest first to unlock them), it always becomes an issue to match the stages of corruption when making them intereact with each other. Say I make Rose and Lily interact, but the player has reached the last quest for Rose and she is fully corrupted, but Lily barely started her own storyline, their interactions would be different than if players started Lily's quest as soon as it is made available. There's also the issue of the outfits that will get sluttier as the story progresses, and that I'd have to keep track of + change each character to match the outfit they could be wearing based on the player's progress within the story. Last but not least, some characters could be away at the moment of the interaction. If Rose had to leave the city to run an errand at a certain time, but she suddenly appears in Lily's quest, it would make little sense. That's the main problem when offerin some non-linearity to players. As a developer, I can either choose to risk having immersion-breaking irregularities by blending characters from different storylines, or try to keep immersion but keep each character within their respective storyline. Since I find immersion really important within my games, I went with the latter. What do you think?

N_taii

Ah yeah. That's a fair argument, tbh. But maybe it's still possible to make it a little more organic by having the female characters interact alongside each other from time to time and progressing the corruption through persuading. In HC2 it felt like Celis and Aywin went their own path after the corruption started. Would be cool if the characters here still feel like a group of friends that gets corrupted from the outside and not like 4 different characters experiencing their very own story in the same game. You know, what i mean?

That's something I had in mind, but it's a bit more difficult to implement in games that come out in regular updates, as people hope to have content including their favourite character, so I try to keep it evenly spread between updates. If one character ends up fully corrupted way ahead of all the others, people who prefer said character won't be able to look forward for her corruption further in the game, and additional scenes with her might get stale quickly. Also, with the current system, corrupting side characters ahead of the others is an almost impossible task. Since side quests pertaining to either Lily or Haylen's storyline gets unlocked as the player progresses the main storyline, if I want to have them corrupted before everyone else, I'd have to do so in the first 2-3 quests, and the corruption might look like it's happening too fast. I could try and have all their storyline unlocked early in the game, but the issue would be the same as above, and it might not match the pace of the story. Another reason is I like the characters to reach the final corruption stage at around the same time, so players get into the endings with everyone's final corrupted state still fresh in their mind. That way, it looks more like a climax to the entire game rather than having two characters that were already corrupted a few updates ago and two other characters that just finished their corruption which, imo, makes the game slightly less coherent and the climax more underwhelming. What I have thought about is differing the start of the first NTR event and subsequent corruption. I'd be starting earlier for some and have others still resist further, while still trying to have everyone be fully corrupted at around the same time towards the end of the game. It's something I need to think about.

N_taii

Amazing banner continues to look better and better this game keep being amazing

Abuus

nice!

amazing work as always!! can't wait for the first release!

Btw, i don't know how you want to develop the NTR aspect nor do i want to tell how you should do it, but thinking about HC2, there was one thing that i was not so fond of. And that was the fact, that booth FMCs got NTRd at the same pace. It would be cool if for HC3 the FMCs got NTRd at a different speed, if you know what i mean. That fells more organic, in my opinion, and gives you the option to spread out the juicer stuff more, without making the game feel too dry. Would be cool if Lily, for example, would already fall for an antganosist while Rose is still at "stage 1", or whatever. Maybe one FMCs even pushes another one to have sex. I dunno. Really don't want to tell you how to write your game but that was one thing i had on my mind. haha Ty for the PoL, as always!

Looking good! Very excited to see what HC3 will be like!

Vitreous Humour

Thanks for the answer! There are no problems with the fact that only 20-5$ will receive the game, I was just wondering if there is such an opportunity or not, but given that updates will be released within one or two months, this is not even necessary :3 When I have the opportunity, I happy to join as a $5 subscriber!

DeadMouse

1) I'm aiming at one month per update, although they will be smaller than for HC2. I'm also making the release date a bit less "strict", so instead of "I will release it one the 10", it will be more something along the lines of "I will release it between the 10-14 of that month". Only for the first release after the demo will it take a bit more time (about 6 weeks I'd say), because I will need more time to fix all the potential bugs of the demo, and will also have to prepare for the public release of the game. 2) I'm really sorry, but I don't intend on making the game available for the 1$ tier. It was special this time, because I didn't want to release the first version to the public, so it was normal that all Patrons get access to it. After that, all release will stay 5$ minimum, and will be released for free one month after the've first been posted here on Patreon. Sorry again!

N_taii

Thank you for your kind comment : )

N_taii

First I want to thank you for a job well done! I'm looking forward to the moment when I can enjoy the finished version of the demo! Next, I want to ask a couple of questions: 1) After the release of the final version of the demo, will the next versions of the game come out with the same gaps or will they come out faster / longer? 2) Is it also possible to add the ability to get a new version of the game for $ 1 subscribers and not wait for the release of a new version of the game? (one or two weeks after the 5$ subscribers get it) P.s. Apologize again for my English, I'm using translator m(_ _)m

DeadMouse

Thank you for the hard work!
