Proof of Life #132: Back to the basics

Hello friends and foes, it's N_Taii, your friendly neighborhood dev, back again with a long awaited PoL Monday post!

So, the first version of HC3 has been out for about a week, and the feedback for it has been mostly positive, so I'm pretty happy about it : )

I haven't done much progress on the story this week. I rested on Monday, and the rest of the week has been spent either drafting up commissions, listening and answering to feedback, and mainly working on the "basics" of the game.

The basics mainly consist in repetitive menial work to set up the base on which I will work for every future updates. It doesn't translate into new content, but it is essential for me as a dev. For example, I am now copy-pasting every single one of the main outside and interior maps 6 times. Why? Because I have an individual copy of each map for every time frame, so Wedath to Soldath, day and night, makes 6 timeframes(I already have Lundath morning and evening). It takes time, and it makes the game's file size slightly bigger, but by having one separate map for each timeframe, it's a thousand times easier to develop the game and avoid potential bugs, duplicates, etc...

"Why should copy-pasting take so much time?", you may ask. Well, with every new map, I need to rework every single trigger and automatic movements on every individual map so that, for example, someone exiting the MC's apartment on Fridath morning doesn't end up on the Wedath morning map because of a faulty trigger. Then, I need to retest everything and, since I will be done with that today, I need to set up new NPCs on the maps and give new lines to the guards. There's also the need to properly organize every sex animation (now that there are different breasts sizes, smaller bodies for Lily, bigger bodies for men, etc..., this takes a bit of time too), and all the sound files that I have.

Anyway, I won't bore you with more details, you get the idea : ) I am also writing a list of everything that needs to be added to the first version, be it new features or adding new events. Hopefully, I can get the new update out by next month, but we'll see, because it's pretty hard to grasp the amount of work still left at this point.

Btw, I have decided to release the first version to $1 Patrons probably around the 10th of next month, maybe a bit earlier.

@CobraPL It'll be kind of the same as I did so far. Those scenes where the MC is around, I might add a few extra details to the scenes, just like the one on the boat. If he isn't there, well, he won't see anything. That's the idea behind the POV.^^

"I really dont want to feel like I'm "missing out" on scenes" Well, this is what it is about. Knowing you may miss a scene IF MC is not there adds more paranoia and mystery. I suggest leaving partial POV as "serious" version, sth like RPG (role playing, immersion etc.). While full POV may be left for porn playthrough. Just don't mix them. Knowing that in PPOV player will see everything anyway will spoil much of effect.

Adding extra details would be greatly appreciated. I will being playing in the Partial PoV and I really dont want to feel like I'm "missing out" on scenes, leaving clues of where a scenes is, about, or happened will give extra detail and reason to play the Partial PoV for the players. Enjoyed the prologue

Thanks! Some of the scenes will be entirely skipped over in the Partial PoV, it will depend on where the MC is and what he sees. The player are, after all, seeing through his eyes. But whenever I can, I'll try to add a few things and extra details here and there to make it unique. About Selen, I'll see. I can't make any promises : )

I just wanted to suggest on maybe bringing back selen for an extra scene with her getting corrupted my the captain. You probably weren't planning on doing anything with them after the prologue but I still think it would be nice if somewhere down the line she shows up in town and you get a sequence of her getting corrupted by the captain after the prologue, like they somehow end up marooned on an island and have to wait for help or something. I really thought the execution of the pov system was great. I though it was gonna be like you would miss out on a whole scene with nothing to go on like some other games but luckily you can still see some stuff with the mc pov. everything else like the set up of the characters was pretty good as well. Ok sorry for the wall of text but I really wanted to give that suggestion even if it doesn't get put in, I really enjoyed the game so far and cant wait to see what's coming.
