Proof of Life #119: It's progress report #7, baby!

Heya everyone, how are you doing? No surprise in this post, I'll mostly announce what I've been up to this past week, and add a few personal thoughts in the mix.

HC3's Story: Not much actual progress. None at all actually, but I'm almost finished with the maps, which means I'll soon be able to seriously start with the story. With HC2, I had a mental draft in my head with one possible ending, and I went ahead with that, improvising lots of it along the way. This time, I've written a rough script with some major milestones in the story, but it's not quite finished yet (writing a good story that would make sense over the span of several hours of gameplay is a lot harder than one might think^^). So after the maps, I'll force myself to sit down for 2-3 days and come up with more script ideas.

HC3's Map: I couldn't work on them as much as I'd hoped. This was mostly due to a bad headache that lasted for around 2 days straight, and sitting in front of a screen proved a lot harder that usual. I still managed to squeeze in some work anyway. The rest of the week went as usual.

The inn/tavern  is now entirely done (example guest room in upper left corner), and so is the casern(upper right and lower left corners). Now, all that remains is the sister's and the MC's house, and the antagonist's manor's interior. Then, I'll make any new maps I would need as I progress with the story.

HC3's Art: Talking about antagonists, you can see one of them in the lower right corner, the one with the hat and the moustache. I thought you guys might be bored of seeing only maps, so I added some sprites as well. There's the antagonist, a sleeping sprite of the childhood friend (for the prologue of the story), as well as some variations of the female characters: 

- the princess has two sides to her: the noble and elegant princess, and the one who enjoys spending time with her friends away from the castle, not afraid to get dirty if needs be. For that, she will have two different outfits and haircuts: the princess version (as you can see in the sprites, nothing new), and the "friend" version (ponytail haircut, casual outfit that should be ready tomorrow). 

-the sister/female captain of the city guard: she will have a casual outfit and haircut (the one on the right), but also a loose hair version, and a city guard version, with a personal stylized armor(also ready by tomorrow) and a bun haircut.

Since the antagonist varies from the usual muscular antagonist from HC1 and HC2 in terms of bodytype, I'm having one artist redo the sex animations with a different nude model for the male. I don't want it to be obese or disgusting, but not a typical bodybuilder either.

HC3's Gameplay: One thing: I'll try to have a save/load system that can be accessed directly in-game. not much, but it beats having to quit the game every time you wish to load another save.

That's it for this week! I'm sorry for those that feel like progress is slow. I swear I'm doing my best, but I've never put so much work into the visuals for a game. Every single map is entirely made in an image editing software, only making the base from RPGM's map editor (walls and roofs, which are then also edited afterwards). Sure, most items are standard or custom assets copy-pasted onto the map, but finding the right asset, matching the colors, creating the right layout, making sure everything works in each map, etc... means that even the smaller maps take a few hours to make. For example, I took half an hour last week changing the colors of the bottles on a shelf one by one so it would look like the tavern is selling several different types of alcohol^^

After all, the more time it takes, the better the game in the long run! So I hope you'll be patient with me.

Usually I dont like it if the LI gets laid from the get go, as it makes the corruption process loose some weight. The first game/novel I have played where I totally liked it though was in 'A Promise Best Left Unkept'. I think the author did a great job there in finding a great pace with a lot of detailed corruption scenes still going on. Overall I would still prefer the 'conservative' way N_Taii describes, though I think things could be mixed up a bit, so that its not HJ into BJ into TJ into H into ... but a little more situational and more surprising as well as making more sense without the feeling of a forced scene...

For starters, the player won't walk into the heroin already in bed, as keeping him oblivious for as long as possible is a focal point of the game, but I get what you mean. I thought this approach of the heroin losing her virginity first was rather weak in NTRPG. The whole point of a lot of NTRPG game is slow corruption, going step by step, with the woman allowing more and more extreme acts. As long as the heroin hasn't lost her virginity, there remains a light hope for the MC that things might get turned around, until the corruption finally reaches the point of no-return where the heroin gives up the very symbol of her purity to the antagonist. It's a process I always liked to implement, because it keeps players subconsciously on their toes, even though we all know the outcome of the game. I'll keep your comment in mind though, see if I could slightly alter the pace here and there.

I hope for at least one of the heroines (maybe the secondary ones) you'll break out of the HJ -> BJ -> Sex sequence. I really like when in NTR games you enter in a room and the heroine is "suddenly" already in bed (like the start of NTRPG2). For the story I think the most important thing is making the player create a strong bond with the characters, having them get some kind of win early game, a good bonding experience the player gets to play out, really adds a lot.

1. I partly did it after your feedback. Besides, I thought it'd fit the noble type more to have a less muscular build. 2. Well, they'll get their own lewd outfit, that's for sure. I'll also see what else could fit their storyline. But for the time being, they'll have at least 2 outfits each for the main girls. I'll see about the side characters later. 3. I'll see, yes. Adding stuff is always a possibility, and I'll most likely get back to polish the maps even further. Thing is, you probably haven't noticed from the pictures, but all ground tiles have some grass growing between them with different patterns, but the grass is pretty thin, so the pictures don't do it justice. 4. I finally did what I should have done a long time ago: sit down and take a look at available mods and scripts available to improve the game's quality. Aside from the tags and the load system, I'm also planning a fast travel option between various points of the map. Thanks for the nice comment!

Oh god that just sounds so fantastic. My top 5 favourites of this weeks progress report: 1. Finally a different type of antagonist (it fills my heart with excitement)!!! Cant shout that out loud enough.. ;) 2. I love the hair styles and backstories to those styles you have come up with (Only thing left to hope is, that there might also be more diversity with the clothings). 3. Also the maps look absolutely fantastic. Maybe when you are done with all you can hover over all one more time and add a little more dirt details here and there, but apart from that I am already in love with this games visuals. 4. The QoL improvements are amazing. From the building tags to the new save and load system, I am just totally convinced. 5. I actually love that you are doing a rough script this time as it is hard to keep all the ideas together for such a big and great game you are planning to do. Right choice!! All this together just makes me very confident that HC3 is going to be exactly what I would have loved to see. Thanks for the great amount of work and love for detail you must be putting into this new game, but my oh my this game is going to be something different, something impactful. Thanks a lot N_Taii, and I am with you!! Take your time, dont hurry!!
