It has come to my attention that there has been a leak of my Patron-only content on a certain website.
Because of that, I would like to clear up certain things about the content I publish.
First of all, the schedule:
-Any new update will first be published for 9$+ Patrons, and the extra-scene version will be published at the same time for 20$+ Patrons.
-Five days later, the new update will be made available for 5$ Patrons. The same day as the 5$ release, the previous update will be made public.
-The extra-scene content will remain available only to 20$. It is meant to increase the value of the 20$ tier because, as time passes and new updates are released, pledging to the 20$ tier will get the Patrons more and more content.
Important notice
I know some people will be tempted to release the Patron-only content on other sites before I make it public.
I also know that most of my Patrons are wonderful people who will respect my schedule and the rules I have fixed because you want to see this game series thrive as much as I do.
However, if you are thinking about putting my Patron-only content on other platforms, remember that you are doing a favor to no one. Sure, there might be new content available on the spot, and that might seem great, but it also mean less motivation for the developer, less content, less features and less quality down the line.
A lot of my Patrons came to subscribe because they expect to have new content made available for them, and they stay because they know the will get new updates monthly. However, not respecting the schedule and publishing my content on other free platforms will mean a lot less Patrons (something I noticed for any previous HC1 leaks), and less funds for my current and upcoming projects.
I don't think of myself as money-hungry. I don't want to get rich, I don't even expect to live comfortably, I mainly want to make a living developing games of increasing quality for everyone to enjoy. Isn't that a dream for most of us?
That being said, I will definitely finish any project I have started, whatever happens, because I owe it to everyone supporting me, and I hope to be able to bring you more quality, more content, and more games (I have so many ideas).
So please, if you are thinking of spreading my content around, remember this message. I am working for everyone, but also for you.
Hope this did not sound too dramatic, that was not my intention. Also, I appreciate everyone of you, so please don't take this message the wrong way. This is not meant to blame my Patrons, my followers, or anyone that stumbled upon this message, not at all. I'd be quite the jerk if I were to lash out on people who have supported me thus far. I love you guys (and gals)! : )

I will mention that i found this game thanks to the leak, otherwise i woudnt probably have found it, so i dont think leaks are just a negative even though it sucks for the the dev to not get compensated for his work. I migth pledgde a little higher down the line to make up for the fact i got here thanks to the leak.

But there are a few Patrons-exclusive content, like early access and some extra-content, that I'd like to be kept Patron only : )

Otherwise, I would have never known and experienced your work. I do believe that those who can afford to will donate to and support you. Although you disagree with those sites, they do bring in new support for you - like me.

At least that^^

You can blame yourself for doing too good of a job heh. Some side character that we have not seen much of is a great target for that. Preferably a char without portrait, but I know there is not that many of them.

2020-11-19 07:10:08 +0000 UTCWhile I don't get why people would leak these things, my only suggestion is that you don't worry about it that much even though I understand it must suck (I can't, and won't say I know how it feels). These kinds of leaks are nothing new and the following you have achieved already takes that into consideration. Take me for example, I contribute with what I can, not because I don't know what site you're talking about, but because I think it's only fair that I subscribe with what I can for the amount of work and effort you put into your games. On a less shitty note, just want to say that I really enjoyed the last update and that it's really cool to be able to follow your progress as a game developer, seeing the quality of your work only going up with time, and that I hope you reach a number of patrons that allows you to keep it up comfortably.

From my point of view, as the developer, she is a side character through and through, and that's how I see her, same as Neve and Thania, even though Solana got a bit more "screen time" at the beginning. She should not even have gotten a portrait to begin with if it wasn't for a nice Patron paying for them. But I'm sorry about that. I'll be more careful from now on.

I don't agree. If I hadn't created the 20$ tier with extra-scene, all the updates would be the same as 5$ one. I'm just working extra hard before each release to get another scene out as a bonus of sorts.

Downloaded the leaked content to see what people above where talking about; and after playing the last update, if that's is what you consider "extra" and not main content locked out of the game, you are straight up pulling the same shit triple A game developers does with their paid dlc with stuff that should have been in the game to begin with. Sorry if this comes out offensive but I out of princip heavily dislike this type of patreon system, no matter what intention you have, its still locked content. Wouldn't be surprised if there were a lot more than just me that frowns upon a system like this. In perspective I have pledged up to like 60-70 bucks per months split on multiple patreons before corona times started, and the only patreons I pledged over 10+ bucks for are projects that gives a good deal and logically make sense to pledge a few extra for benefit. This system is not one of them. Sorry for the rant, and good luck with future development. I'l continue to lowkey support the project as I truly think its a good game, but going any high makes absolutely no sense with a regular first world salary.

The last extra scene was the best scene in the whole game so far from my perspective. It feels kinda bad that it is gated. As others mentioned, it promotes paying just the 20 bucks once the game is done. Or waiting for a pirated copy.

2020-11-18 02:18:07 +0000 UTCI understand your stance, and I respect it. However, if I may add something, in no way is the extra content scrapped from the base game. When I launched my Patreon page in September 2019, I decided to do a little extra-work so I could add an extra scene in there. Even if you don't pledge 20$, you should get a near complete game experience without noticing that there is anything missing. Besides, I find it completely reasonable when someone decides they just want to pledge 20$ at the end of the game, in the middle of it, or periodically to catch up on extra content, and not every month. I know that, in the end, it is merely a matter of point of view, but I'd like to think of it as a little extra added to the game if you decide to pledge more, not as base content locked behind a paywall, because that wasn't my intention. : )

Couldn't justify paying 5 bucks over 1 bucks when neither tier will ever get access to the extra content. Thats a flawed system right there, I wouldn't mind going back to 5 bucks if we got the extra content an update later or even at full release but paying anything over $1 tier vs having to pay $20 per month is a big no no, and I cannot even imagine people whom can justify these expenses per month for an extra scene on a regular salary. IMO content gated behind big payments are stupid, and is literary better of going for 1 big payment at the full release than consistently support the development of the game. Anyone that supported in total over $20 should get access to all the content upon full game release atleast. just my 2 cent.

It's just that I think the person who did it is actually a decent person (he's been supporting me for several months without leaking anything), and maybe they would understand that it isn't in their interest to leak. Maybe I'm just being naive, but I want to trust them : )

If you want it free, you just have to wait, patience have a price, here, it's only 9$. I think that it's a reasonable price honestly. Keep up the good work ! Last update was really awesome btw :D
