In Remalon culture, when a pair of different race Remalons mate and produce an offspring, their offspring is often referred to as a Shade. This moniker refers to two things actually. 1) A Shade tend to have special abilities that are a shade in comparison to their full blooded parents. Depending on the combination of the parents, their natural abilities will not be as powerful or as effect as a pure blooded counterpart.
If a Shade has a very mixed bloodline of a variety of different races of Remalons in it's history, it could very well be born powerless and may find that it may have difficulty producing offspring itself (and almost Mule effect). What combination or variation of abilities the Shade may develop can be random depending on what it's parents are.
The second term that Shade refers is the skin tone the offspring will have that willl visually identify their half-breed heritage. Often the skin values will be a combination of the skin tones of it's parents when 2 pure blooded Remalons of different race mate. However, a dominate gene will take over between the two parents that will cause the color value of the Shade's skin to lean more towards one parent than another.
unfortunately the life of a Shade is not an easy one, as breeding with an individual outside of one's race is not necessarily an encourage activity among the various Remalon tribes. Often Shades are outcast or at the vary least frowned upon by pure blooded members of either of it's parent's race. Parents may also face being ostracized from their tribes and forced to leave out on their own.
So living life as a Shade can be a very hard one, but it doesn't mean pockets of happiness can't be found. And it also doesn't mean that the feelings of negativity towards them is universal among individuals in each racial group and tribe.
