Was really interesting to hear Austin speak on Tales of the Jedi here. I’m completely *loud fart noises* on the references Clone Wars pulls but I love those comics and their kinda overwrought mythologizing and strange as hell characters and dirty ass aesthetic. So cool.

Yea, she’s also did Master & Apprentice. Think that Bloodlines is better. But speaking of M&A, I read that but never listened to Dooku. I guess Rael being characterized as a cowboy-voice guy makes sense, but I read him 100% as having like a Cockney accent. Fun character

There's precedent for the former at least. Gonzo as Vader goes back to The Muppet Show in 1979 when he played "Dearth Nadir" on Pigs in Space. That's fair, but I still think it was weird that it was dismissed so quickly and entirely on a purely anti-royalist basis when there's plenty of other stuff going on there within this narrative. I expected there to at least be some discussion on that point? I dunno.

They are dismissive of the idea because it is fantasy in this context. Onderon is not a backwater, any ruler that planet has is going to be “compatible” to an empire and not “chosen” by the people. Onderon is Iran Contra from the US pop culture perspective.

Honestly feel like y'all are being a little unfair to the concept of kings within a decolonization narrative like this. Obviously kings are bad and it sucks that the arc doesn't spend more time with normal civilians, but for a colonized people a rightful king represents a traditional power structure that is being usurped, in this case by a force that doesn't even actually have any anti-monarchist sentiment because they literally installed a different, shittier king.

"Holonet" is such a good word. I love a fantasy version of the internet, in Kill Six Billion Demons there's a one-off mention of something called "the glyphosphere".

re: who knows that Luke and Leia are vader's kids: there's a really good canon that goes into this. The book is called Bloodlines and it's by Claudia Gray, the best currently working Star Wars writer IMO. The story revolves around Leia's rocky working relationship with a hot young member of the opposing party.The short answer is that it's hushed up, but her opponents in the fledgling New Republic government find out about it and leak the info, causing a huge scandal. This is partially explains why when we meet Leia in The Force Awakens she's on the outs with the New Republic and is running her own Resistance.
