Abandoned WIP

Hi-ho everyone! This was something I was working on and kind of forgot about (abandoned) and i recently unearthed in my attempt to organize the chaos. If you like it let me know in the comments!

Ever since you were little, you were raised by your grandmother. To say you had a normal childhood would be a bold faced lie. It was anything but. Your grandmother took you around the world, showing you sights and visions rarely seen by man. Your grandmother was head of a special organization that not only studied cryptozoology, but housed and preserved it. For as long as you’ve been alive, you’ve been surrounded by these strange and amazing creatures.

Recently, your grandmother passed. You took over her place as head of the organization. You were all but happy to do it, in fact it had always been your dream to follow in your grandmother’s footsteps. You just never imagined doing it without her.

You were returning from a sabbatical. Your colleagues and friends in the organization had insisted it you take after your grandmother’s funeral. You had gone to your grandmother’s house in the mountains and enjoyed being snowed in with the memory with her. You were eager to get to work and finally get back to normalcy. Although, it was hard seeing your grandmother’s desk empty.

“Isn’t her’s anymore.” You jump from your spot in the doorway and look up at the hulking figure standing over you. “Yours now, right?”

You huff, “it will always be her’s to me.”

His massive hand covers the top of your head like he used to do when you were little. Oliver, has your grandmother named him, had been one of the first creatures you had met face to face. Your grandmother had rescued him from the nets of fishermen in the north. She called him an Akhlut, but she named him Oliver after her favorite book.

“You ok?” He asks, tilting his head.

You step into the office and he follows after you, his long tail thwacking on the door frame. “I suppose,” you say as you place your hand on the desk. “I know everyone will miss her.”

Oliver squeezes your shoulder. “Her family is your family, don’t forget that. Sure, you’re a pain in the ass,” he laughs.

You turn and look at him, slightly scowling.

He points and smirks. “That’s the face.” His hand on your shoulder slips down your arm.

“Don’t you have somewhere to be?” You take hold of his hand as his fingers touch the back of your hand.

Comments

I like it a lot. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing it continued.
