Since she is way beyond by the time i start, it's kinda safer spoiler wise... but i dunno , sure i was surprised Merry was even alive, but it does not bother me. When you look at it, there is no benefit for him being dead, besides making the situation more realistic. And most of all we know nothing about him, aren't emotionally invested in him and attached to him. Those "psych they ain't death" fake-out in One piece only bother me in a few rare and specific instances.... Like Pell , where we are clearly groomed to like the character, learn some backstory and care about the death

2025-05-12 11:00:56 +0000 UTCI know you are way past this point by now, but something about Kuro at his core is he still had immense pride over accomplishment he was trying to hide and erase. A more subtle aspect if his chats is that he also has bouts of bloodlust he has to fight/struggle against and it affects his core decision making. It's why he almost killed Kaya early (would have ruined his own plan) and why he attacked Merry (kinda lame merry survived this so easily). He is a character at odds with himself and his goals and an all around hypocrite. Even if he had come to care about Kaya, he had long planned her death and had pride in that plan. He also had to "right the wrong" of her pushing his legendary self around (despite him wanting to bury that identity) and seeing that as a reason he must kill her. Man is CRAZY
