Most of the court slept this time, and Renee was always free in the mornings. Nevertheless, Doucette had expected their meeting the whole evening, and she felt excited when heading to the village. Her plan was to take Renee to the forest and return after mid-day when the town was busy, and many people helped her to disguise the crowd. Moreover, Doucette was burning with a desire to have a chance to spend time with Renee. Although she had fantasized about being a boy with a girl like Renee, these feelings were new to her. From the fairytales and stories of older girls, she knew that these feelings reminded her of how love was described. Still, she doubted if she could fall in love with Renee, a girl like she was. But the way she touched Doucette and looked at her made Doucette's heart beat faster. Her lower belly was ticking like hundreds of feathers were touching her skin. On top of that, all Doucette loved the sound of Renees voice and her light laughter.
Renee told Josie about morning chores, although Renee doubted that her story was boring compared to the Rangers' morning story. She was happy when Josie listened to her and was interested in what she had done before their meeting. While Doucette focused on Renee and her talk, she didn't notice how David appeared behind the corner. David was the leader of the rangers and the King's Sherif. He was one of the people who could recognize Doucette. He could also get interested in who the stranger with an expensive sword was. When Doucette noticed him and realized it was David, her heart was nearly stopping. It was too late to hide.
