For doing longer comics like this I usually start with rough MSPaint sketches to lay out the panels and dialogue, I kind of skipped those when posting Boomer's Big Date but I think showing the whole creative process might be interesting.
As you can see on the very rough sketch I did back in (April?), 1) the main character is a ram, 2) they're using a numeric scale for exam grades, and 3) all the characters' names are different.
1) I mentioned this in a previous post. I originally wanted to go with a ram but I changed it for a couple reasons, first of all because I wanted to give the MC a more lithe body type to contrast with the professor, and while I fucking love rams and they deserve more attention, I think they look better when they're a little chonkier. The second reason is... a little more cynical. There's a lot of people that just don't give furry media without canines of any sort a chance. And a lot of those people don't know that hyenas are not canines. I do like yeens though.
2) You might notice that in the English version, Walter gets an F, and in the Spanish version, he gets a 2. Personally I think the non-linear letter grading system used in the US is completely fucking stupid. I normally don't indulge American standards if they don't make sense to me (eg I'll be using the metric system for weights later in this comic). But the Argentine public university grading scale of 2/10 if less than 3/5 of the questions is correct, 4 if 3/5 of questions are correct, and 7-10 onwards is just as stupid, so I'll let the letter grading system slide this time (also yes, it fucks with your GPA really bad).
3) I don't really imagine this comic being set anywhere in particular but just because I'm doing the Spanish translation simultaneously, I changed all the names to ones that wouldn't be out of place on both the US and Latin American countries.
