In regards to the power of friendship in Fairy Tail, we actually do get an explanation for it a couple times in fact. Once after Lucy joins the guild, and again in a flashback during the Tower of Heaven. It’s explained that magic is born from strong bonds and emotions. That’s why they talk about Juvia turning emotions into magic power. The bonds of friendship are literally a source of magic power
