(early) One Piece Episode 548-550 REACTION

Agreed, watching the arc in 5-10 weeks compared to a year makes a great difference. rewatching old arcs faster makes them more enjoyable for sure. (unfortunately I have the ability to do that with the arcs I am on currently and that doesn't help them. IMO Fishman Island is 10x better than what I've seen of later arcs. Maybe I'll get back into them at some point, but I am currently not watching. Think I am 100 episodes behind.)

I'm going to preface this with I love One Piece, it is a fantastic story and even the Arc's I'm going to complain about I still find plenty to like about them. I stopped One piece back in 2001-2002 when the Anime was doing the Arabasta Arc because they added in a lot of recap filler and as a kid I just didn't have the patience for it. I didn't pick up One Piece for probably close to 8 or 9 years (I got caught up when the manga was doing Marineford towards the end of that arc in 2009-2010) Even now I don't really like the Arabasta arc and Skypiea is one of my favorites because I always remember what I didn't like about Arabasta and Skypiea was the first new thing I experienced. I think that the issues most people have with Skypiea, Thriller Bark, and Fishman Island is that when watching / reading weekly the pacing seems to make things go on for so much longer that you don't really get to experience when you are catching up and watching 3-6 videos at a time. I don't remember how long you spent on Thriller Bark but at the time the viewers were there for slightly over a year in the Manga and just under a year in the Anime. And spending that long of a time on a "bad" arc makes people salty, especially when its compared to the Water 7, Ennis Lobby, and Sabaody arc's that it is sandwiched between.

The reason I think people don't like the arc is because all the build up, since there was Impel down and Marine Ford before it still building up to the arc they were trying to get to I think it got too build p for some people,

fishman arc is in no way bad but the thing from now on is how dam good the antagonists are, every good ark has its bad guy and unfortunately this one had a racist drug addict and that is about as deep as he goes (pun intended)

Luffy doesn't care about history all that much. He did the same with Nami on her Island and just walked away instead of hearing Nojiko's story. I'm sure there are other examples of Luffy just not giving a shit about history. He'd much rather focus on his and his friends current issues.

Of course this arc being relatively "worse" does not equate to it being objectively "bad." All those people are simply failing to explain that they prefer all the arcs after this one that are superior in their opinion. Heck, they're not wrong there and I love how you're taking their shit talk, but this arc is decent in its own right as a transition/introduction to the second half of the series. Of course it only gets better, that's just how writing should work.
